Maybe someone that actually makes money at this can help or offer suggestions.

I get about 100-150 unique visitors per day and average about $3.00 per month from adsense. (What in your opinion should I be making with this amount of visitors)

My biggest problem is that the ads are not targeting my articles and I don't know why.

If you visit any of the articles the ads that show have to due with selling something called AMS or ads with the word modules in them. I know this is due to my urls, most are modules/ams/article.php

In the past, say a few month ago they were working right and targeting keywords in the articles.

Anybody had this happen to them and know how to fix this. I would hate to have to leave google because of this.

Just an update here. I've contacted the google adsense team and they replayed saying that they are trying to figure out what the problem is, referring to my ads not targeting... Whatever that mean. I did notice my ads started targeting somewhat better a few hours before they sent the email.

I would still like to get some advise from people here about the best ad placement though.

Thanks

Edit: Actually I think they fixed it. Must have reset it or something.

Depending on the age of the site, it can take some time to google to realise things have changed. I had a site where I totally changed the content and it kept the ads that related to the old stuff for about a week and a half. It is also possible that there arent enough keywords in your article for google to latch onto.

Atozoth I'm not sure what the average click through rate is for adsense on a typical site. I just started using adsense and not making much at the moment.

The people who seem to do well are those that set up a variety of ads and experiment with where they place them on the site. You'd also want to set up separate channels for each and then measure the results. Once you see which ads work better you can change the underperorming ad types and locations with the the ones that perform.

There's also a way to let Google know which part of you content you want them to base the ads on. The code is:

<!--google_ad_section_start-->
<!--google_ad_section_end-->

Whatever you place in between the two comments is what Google will use in determining what ads to display.

They basically do. I just found this tip recently from Google themseleves. Here's the link:

I haven't experimented with it yet, but I definitely intend to.
