Hi, i just recently signed up for google adsense, and was wondering which would be better Cost per 1000 impression or cost per click? I mean im sure one is more advantageous to a high-traffic site while the other is more advantageous to a low-traffic site. Right? Or does it make no difference? It seems a lot of websites go cost per click...

I would choose cost per click because you'll only have to pay for people who are interested in your ad. (It would be a waste to pay for CPI and not get any interested visitors...)

Oh, yes, in that case it would be opposite (from my experiences). If you get heavy traffic -> use pay per impression. If you have few traffic, try using the pay per click.

It all depends on the them for your site and the amount of advertiser available for your pages. best way is to try out adsense for a couple of months and see what the effective CPM you are getting and then see if the CPM network you have qualified for is offering for you and see what benefits you more.

I didn't see any option for CPI on Adsense, only CPC. Am I wrong?

I just read adsense help, advertisers compete for either CPC or CPM, and whoever bids higher gets it.

You can turn your ads on to only be image ads.... but I'm not sure if you actually earn CPM unless they choose to advertise specifically on your site.

Here is a sample of what I see on my admin page:
Page impressions Clicks Page CTR Page eCPM [?] Earnings
416 4 1.0% $X.XX $X.XX

I didn't select CPM, but that is what is show. I didn't get any credit until some clicks showed up though.

So I'm semi purplexed.

Is anybody currently using a CPM system that can speak to how well it works, how it works, etc?

I've I'm getting 5,000 page views from a site, and have earned five clicks and $3.31 cents, might I do better with a CPM system?

You can't choose CPM or CPC if you are a publisher, you can do this if you are an advertiser. With the CPM model, the adverstiser nominates individual sites and also a max CPM which they are prepared to pay (the minimum is $0.25)

Therefore unless your site is nominated by an advertiser, it will not be showing CPM ads. Sites nominated by advertisers are likely to be well-known high traffic sites in their category. A CPM model will work if your Page eCPM is low.

What I do for one of my high traffic site is this. I use Casale Media as the main network for Ads over 0.5 CPM. Unfilled traffic is then sent to Google. For advertising space that are very low in the page i.e. those that will get a very low click through, I will put in ASN ads. Because with Casale Media, the ads must be placed higher up. Other CPM networks with good payouts would be Burst Media and FastClick
