I have a pretty new website that was generating about $8-10 dollars a day constantly, and starting yesterday (8/27/07) the earnings have decreased dramatically.

On (8/26/07) I had 20 clicks resulting in $8.56.
On (8/27/07) I had 17 clicks resulting in $4.26.
On (8/28/07) I have 8 clicks resulting in $0.49

On the days before 8/26 I was generating about $10 dollars for each day, and this site has only been up for almost 2 weeks now. What is happening to my earnings? I just put Kontera on the website on (8/27/07), does that have anything to do with it? I have no clue what's going on.

I would call my self a 'noobie' to adsense as this is my very first site I have launched. I'm just concerned because the website was doing very well and now has dropped substantially in the revenue department. Should I try YPN?

Thanks,
Glenn

I am not sure what to tell you. It is obvious that your CTR dropped. This is odd, because I have noticed the same thing with all 5 sites of mine that get any traffic. Everyone has seen a considerable drop in CTR, im not sure what that is about.

I would use the competitive ad filter to filter out any Made For Adsense sites. See if that helps. Check to see if the ads showing on your page are relevant to the topic of your site.

Hmm, hopefully it doesn't stay like this.

I have put all the competitive ad filter filtering out those MFA sites, I was wondering if you had any experience with YPN? And maybe I should give that a try for a week?

Just my 2 cents, if you put kontera inside your site, a visitor will see more links on your site. So this will possible reduce the chances he/she will click on your adsense.

that is a good point...however im wondering the overall effect of kontera and adsense together. adsense may have dropped slightly, but did kontera more than make up for it? on the average for revenue with both on there...is it making more, less, about the same?

i guess i ask b/c i am about to put kontera up on my site.

As far as YPN goes I have heard that it has higher paying ads but less relevant. With google's system it looks for the most relevant ads. With yahoo it looks for the highest paying ads and secondly how related it is. Also for several weeks my CTR has dropped across all of my sites.

Kontera ads on the whole do not reduce from a site's adsense income. Once integrated into a website, earning should go up provided you follow our guidelines. I could look into your site and advise on optimization

I saw much the same thing through the same period, although it started about a week earlier for me than the date you mentioned. It was almost as if the ads became less relevent or not as many were showing up to click on and the CTR's dropped drastically in the last week of August. It was almost as if all the advertisers pulled the plug on thier budgets the last week of August. There was definately some type of adjustment made in the system over that period though that seems to have affected more than just me.

Some of this could possibly have to do with the age of your site as well. I know a new site for me tends to do well initially but then the CPC rates seem to settle in lower after a number of weeks. I don't know if it has to do with the advertisers making adjustments as the site ages a bit and they are able to see how it converts for them or not but it seems to repeat with each new site I add, some more than others depending on the niche'.

Ay any rate, there was something definately afoot the last week of August. It seems to be recovering for me the last couple of days but only about halfway back to where it started as of today.

For all of those wanting to use Kontera, I can only speak for my own sites. I saw no appreciable difference in CTR or earnings after adding Kontera to my site over 8 months ago and I find it to a nice supplemental income in additon to the AdSense.

It's good to read so many important points.
August is generally a weak month in terms of traffic. It's not surprising that CTR goes down as well as CPC in the last few days of August since there are less advertisers and less advertisers who are willing to invest. But the curve is going up again these days and should gain substantial height soon (the closer we get to holiday season).

Implementing Adsense and Kontera ads on the same page does not affect CTR from what we've tested. Many of our publishers run both programs and report to us very good results. Some use Kontera ads as additional income that brings in a good extra.

Thanks,
Mika,
Kontera Optimization Team

adsense is pissing me right off at the moment, for the past few weeks my earnings have dropped to almost nothing across all my sites except one.
at first the earnings only dropped on one site but then the others started to go the same way, the only thing i done was add a list of low paying MFA sites to the adsense competitor filter.
i`m starting to think google may be punishing me for filtering those junk sites lol
on one site i got just over 450 impressions with 15 clicks and i earned just $0.57 and its more or less the same on the others
i`m seriously close to removing adsense altogether cos those stats are shocking and it doesnt seem to be getting any better :censored:

If the site has only been up two weeks its likely you've taken a rankings dive which often happens with new sites.
Take a look at your website stats and traffic numbers.. that might shed some light.
