In what circumstances would using ebay ads (or the new auctionads system) convert better than plain old adsense?

I dont want to create ad accounts everywhere, but if something is clearly better in certain circumstances, then yeah, ill try it out.

Every site is unique.

And easy way to figure out what is best for you is to run the ads in a rotation and simply see what performs better for you.

This is what I would do also. I'm interested to hear your results if you do test them out.

I'd think AdSense will work better.

eBay auction: User knows exactly what the auction is. There is less clicking out of curiosity. An Xbox 360 premium package is what it is. The user also has to win the auction for you to make money (some non-US eBay pay $0.10-$.25 per bid).

AdSense: User gets promotional language that often gets those curious clicks. I often click ads having no idea what to expect. You get paid whenever someone clicks.

That said, AuctionAds and things like the Editor Kit are targeted with keywords to match your content. Problem is eBay has so many auctions that unless you get super specific, you may still get unrelated auctions.

However, eBay works fantastically when your content is targeted to a specific products and you then hand pick auctions to go next to it. If AuctionAds can get this granular, it should do well.

This said, when in doubt A/B test. Good luck!

Ty

I've never used AuctionAds but it sounds like they would be useful on product pages, and other sites where there are lots of keywords relating to a specific type of product. Otherwise, as tkroll says, you won't get much interest nor curiosity.

I signed up with AuctionAds today and started testing right away! I have a good 'tech' forum/site so we will wait and see what happens.

I got an email from Text-link-ads today inviting me to AuctionAds. I might try them out now that I don't need to apply or anything.

AuctionAds is great. I have a fairly large forum about camera equipment for action sports, etc. So I just have the most popular cameras keyworded into my ads. I've made about $150 so far this week with AuctionAds. And that's placing them at the bottom of the forums. I wonder how they would perform if I put them in a rotation in the top leader as well.

I'm testing out auction ads. So far no leads with +20k impressions. The ads are very relevant, I'm getting more clicks than I've gotten with any other network. People just aren't buying the products. Maybe I should tweak my keywords a bit, or maybe my audience is too young and they don't buy anything.

But I've heard a few success stories from AuctionAds users, so don't listen to me.

I would imagin that it depends on the site. I would think that AuctionAds would perform rather well on a shopping type site while Adsense will perform better on an information type site like a site that publishes articles or news stories, etc.

Guys, how do you think AuctionAds would do on a music site, out of interest?

I like the concept of AuctionAds. Obviously, sites dedicated to higher end items such as designer goods, fashion, and jewelery would do great. I like the fact that a 30-day cookie is added to every person who clicks on an ad, if they buy ANYTHING from EBay within those 30 days, you'll get a commission...

best thing to do is try it out. If it doesn't work take it down.
