Adsense can work well for high traffic sites, but it is definately not something that any publisher can rely on - the very fact that google does not communicate effectively with publishers leaves the publisher open to losing their account on an algorithm decision.
I keep reading about problems of publisher id hijacking and google banning publishers for it. However, google insist it isn't a problem - yet publishers cannot check where supposed 'invalid clicks' are originating as they do not have any channels set up to be able to monitor when their adsense id is hijacked.
Communication with google on the issue just results in the standard automated reply.
The days of 'gaming adsense' are over and people should just focus on doing their websites around topics that interest them - adsense should be able to pay for the hosting, but not much else for most people.
We wonder why MFA sites still exist and why google are slow to punish them yet quick to punish smallfry - the fact is MFA sites make google loads more money than numerous smallfry. (Google likely have a different pricing system in place for sites they deem to be MFA and take maybe 90% of the revenue share for MFA sites - this is just conjecture otherwise google would clean house on MFA sites and encourage more high paying advertisers to use the content network).
To improve google adsense for honest publishers and to gain more confidence from advertisers (therefore improving earning potential for publishers), google have to work at improving the types of sites displaying adsense... mainly eliminate MFA sites, Scraper Sites and spam sites. However, the combined income these sites generate is likely too much for google to deem it a problem as they do not have adequate worldwide competition yet from other PPC progammes and therefore do not need to limit their income in the short term to gain more in the long term.
