Well other guys say other stuff, i spent 5 months updating my entertainment site (dailybuzzer[dot]com) without any major traffic. In October i received over 110,000 unique visitors and made very good amounts with Adsense. November doesn't seem to be bad for me either.
What i'm trying to say is you gotta go through that learning process yourself, and if that guy told you he had 10K for his first month, well - Either it wasn't his first site, or there was someone else to help me. Thinking about it again 10K/30 = 300/day = 12/hour. Which is very achievable if you do unique content, market well and have patience. Not just saying i promise.

What is the best way to get my site out there, and how long did it take some of you guys to get people to start coming to your site? 
This stuff isn't instant success! You have to work to get your site where it needs to be and making profit comes once your site is pretty established and active. Try and build up some solid traffic before jumping onto trying to make money so fast.
