Well, in a way its not done anything more because its just dicsussion in this thread and its not got any more publicity than those already reading the thread!
But I totally agree with what you are saying, but there is controversy, and there is bad publicity.
E.g. the whole Desani/CocaCola thing is a good example of bad publicity. Companies go out of their way and spend loads and loads of money trying to avoid it. I just think the whole "link baiting" culture in online marketting has gone a bit out of hand/proportion thats all; people seem to think its good that people think you are an idiot. How is that going to help you make any money when people not only ignore you and/or dont buy your stuff, but also tell their friends the same thing? Sounds like negative-viral marketting to me...
