Can I make an adsense ad that points to a page on Amazon that has my referral ID? I know it's technically possible, but I'm not sure if it violates the terms of adsense or amazon.

You are not allowed to change the Adsense script that Google gives you. As such I would say no. The only people who can make changes are Premium Publishers - However what you describe you probably not be allowed to them either.

There isn't anything wrong with what you want to do.

Yep you can.

PS: change adsense to adwords, you'll end up confusing many people.

I made some adwoards ads and linked them to amazon products with my referral code. SO far I have 11 clicks at a cost of 95 cents but no profits yet.

keep us upadated if you do make any money. Usually I prefer to link to a landing page which does all the hard selling to create a sale, then links to amazon. Will be interesting to see if you make money though.

It's better to use the presell page because you give the visitor more options. You can put them to your site, show them more adsense ads (get some of your money back), and try to prime the pump for the sale on that particular product.

So you want your link to, for example, the newest Harry Potter
book to go right to the amazon page for that book?

That's simple enough... Go into the text link builder in
your associates account and find the part that lets you
add a specific url.

In a second window browse to your item, copy the url,
paste it into the box in the form, put your link text in the
next box and poof and hit the submit button.
