smart pricing on adsense?

In early july, I took some advice from this forum and started blending ads better on my website. I also added some additional adsense ads on a few pages. I also added some images near the ads.

At the end of the month, my number of clicks increased by 80% over the previous month. However, the income only increased 30%. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the 30% increase but it would have been nice had it been closer to the 80% increase I saw in clicks.

Is this because of smart pricing kicking in because I have more ads displayed?

Should I add more channels so I can track which items are getting the clicks and eliminate the ones that are not converting?

thanks for any advice

I've found that having a channel for each ad unit you have is a fantastic way to maximize your CTR and earnings. I would definitely track each ad and see how they're doing.

As far as smart pricing, I can't say for sure that I've seen this work but I have noticed that if I get a high CTR and earnings one day on a site, my earnings for that particular site sometimes decrease the next day with the same or higher CTR.

If you are in a very narrow niche, you might have exhausted a high-paying advertisers budget "early" in the day, leaving only the lower paying advertisers.

That seems to happen to me a lot. I'll have a good day then bad day, then good day and so on. It is weird. I haven't figured out if it was google doing it or advertisers playing around with their bids doing it.
