Do you find that your text ads work better if they blend in with your site or stand out from it?

So far I seem to get better results when they blend in, but I seen many sites with bright pink adsense ads as well. Was hoping to get a feel for what works overall for everyone.

I think you should have some blend in and some stand out honestly. Its all about the uniqueness of how the users see it and if they want to click it.

I've gone by the angle that I wanted my Adsense ads to stick out so dramatically that they burn in the reader's eyes. So I've gone with bright red or purple text where as the other text is black on white.

My click-throughs aren't the best, but blending in seems to be the way the "pros" go, so that's what I do as well.

Joel Comm & the Adsense-Videos guy both emphasize the blended approach, and it's definitely working for those guys!

I have both that does quite well.
However, for stand out ads, you must make sure you move the ad placement once in a while to counter ad blindness.

Yup, I use the Joomlaspan module for Joomla and it rotates 5-6 colors at a time making my ads appear new. My CTR never drops

Actually I thought my CTR was pretty good. Varies between 1% - 15% depending on the page, but overall average about 3-4%.

The traffic on those sites is very low and they are all fairly plain i.e. black print on a white background so I thought the other colors like red and purple might capture the eye.

I've just changed over to blending in.. let's see what happens..

If the ads blend in with the website people are more likely to click them. If they stick out like a sore thumb people are less likely to click them.

I like the former because it means more money.
