Anybody noticed recently that you had to agree to a new TOS page before you could login to your Adsense account??? Just a couple days ago, Google updated their TOS for all Adsense users. It seems that all sites containing Adsense ads must now have a Privacy Policy notification.

We've also added some specific requirements that make it necessary for publishers to post and abide by a transparent privacy policy that users see. According to this policy, publishers must notify their users of the use of cookies and/or web beacons to collect data in the ad serving process. This change relates to advertisers' use of innovative products and features like Gadget Ads and other offerings in the future.

I can only imagine how this is going to be a major PITA for people with hundreds of sites to update.

yeah i noticed this, i also had to change my login email address, which was a bit annoying as i had the same login for over a year now, strange thing to make us do !

I don't think you'll need the privacy policy unless you use the future new ad products.

Well, it would certainly seem so, according to their explanation on their blog.

However, in the TOS that you have to agree to, there is no mention of any
future products. In fact, the word "future" doesn't appear anywhere in the

If, however, You subsequently use your Account to participate in the Program (i.e. for the purpose of displaying Ads, Links, Search Results and/or Referral Buttons on a Property), then such use of the Program will be governed by the terms of this Agreement. You must have and abide by an appropriate privacy policy that clearly discloses that third parties may be placing and reading cookies on your users’ browser, or using web beacons to collect information, in the course of ads being served on your website. Your privacy policy should also include information about user options for cookie management.

i have read this new policy, but i didn't read all of it.. its kinda long.. so I just agree.. ;-)

For safety reason, I will still create such privacy policies in all my adsense sites. By the way, do i need to have the policy on every page of my site which has adsense ads, or just to the main page?

If your website has TOS, maybe you can place that in there.

Luckily I already have it.

Link to PP generator isn't working. I guess I should put privacy policy on my sites. A lot of people are trying to get info on this from the Google Forum, but Google employees refuse to answer any questions. A lot of disgusted people on that site because of this new issue.

I think the safest and most common method is to create a separate page just for the privacy policy and then have a 'Privacy Policy' link in your footer. For safety sake, I think it should be on every page.

I think Google's reasoning behind this new rule is to comply with the many different global data protection laws and protect themselves against any data that third party advertisers might collect.

That's strange. It rings alarm bells with me.

I hope everybody has their privacy policy in place by now as the deadline has long passed.

I haven't heard of Google banning anybody for not complying yet, but I expect it'll happen eventually.
