Usernames: How and Why?

I came up with mine cos I'm a Star Wars fanatic, ever since 1977 when, as a kid, I won a competition to see the UK premiere.

I'm so sad that two of my kids have star wars related names and the wife is called Jabba the Hutt (

)

A Padawan is a young jedi, a learner, which is what I am when it comes to web design

Became QueenOfStarwars when "jennis" was taken in so many areas. And...of course...I love Star Wars and haven't found anyone in my circle of friends or family who can beat me at Star Wars Trivial Pursuit. Thus, I was dubbed Queen of Starwars.

Mine is simply my first initial and last name. I had it on the back of a shirt once as S. Epple and someone saw it after it was fading and falling off and came up with Sepple so that is what I use now.

My other name is use Mr. Tycoon came from a while ago. I was designing a website and needed to test it out with some fake users so I was trying to think of a name and my Roller Coaster Tycoon game sitting in front of me so I went with Tycoon. I added the Mr. cause I thought that sounded better

I practice Karate Shotokan. Dojo is translated as "the place to find the way" (do=way - Karatedo=the way of the empty hand

) and jo is the way. I've used it for the last 3 years. I made my side dojo.ro, afterwards named my protfolio Dojo Design.

Realised I've read most of this thread and not posted my own:

I sign in as KingOfTheFaireys in a few places, since my surname is Fairey - you don't meet us Faireys very often I can tell you. A while ago as an extra layer of indirection I switched to Oberon since Oberon is the King of the Fairies from Shakespeare. When I signed up to WT it was taken so I went for the visually closest hacker spelling '0beron' - note the zero.

This is all interesting stuff, I have just joined the site so a big HI to everyone.
My name is just a play on the word Disconnected, I was looking for a 'cool' generic name to use on irc years ago and could never find one, they all seemed to be taken.
Then I came up with Fileznstuff, because it was related to what I do for a living (I.T.) I got tired of that nick and changed it to my current one.

Ever since then, even if I switch back to the old one, everyone calls me Diz or Dizzy.
I now use it everywhere, although some people have taken it on other forums

. It kinda sprang to life all by itself. heh.

Not very interestig but there ya go!

I am also soooooooooo curious to know how people choose their nicknames. I myself am addicted to them, I have as many names as a criminal would have

. hmm but I am trying to keep allmagica now as my main nickname in all forums. Allmagica comes from ALLmighty MAGICA its a bit ill I know

but I always liked witches and cartoons. Remember Magica De Spell from Ducktales? So thats where this nickname comes from. I also use viruswitch in the antivir forum. Thats also pretty self explanatory. I guess I like fairy tales, cartoons, science fiction films stories and everything that is magical and sounds unreal.

Wow. This is one MASSIVE thread.
I joined a while back, and just revisited due to boredom.
The site is doing much better than I remember.
Anyway,
I got CannonBallGuy (CBG) from a pair of guys in the year above, 2 years ago.
They tell me it's how my head looked like a cannonball after I had had a number2, yet I always suspedted it's because I'm jus' plain fat...

I am known in most circles as Angelic Vampyre why? well I just liked it, but I thought the different spelling looked cool... Ok I screwed up when i purchased my site and spelt it wrong

Most of my friend both on and off the net call me AV (they say they call me that for short but my real name is "G" so

) anyway I have shortened it now days cause got involved with the band Victim Effect and the drummer is Charlie who use to be in Ghost of the Robot with James Marsters from Buffy and Angel. Spike & Angel were the base of my user name to I shortened it cause it seemed wrong for some reason and also I didn't want people to think that I was doing the "see I support Charlie cause I was always into the music and not the drolling over James" thing.

Before I got Angelic Vampyre I was Bellord, Why cause I found a book by him and I liked the look of it (never read it) and thought what the heck I will use that and this is a really long post!

Also sorry I don't like full stops

Ape Dos Mil is the title of one of my favorite songs by a band called GlassJAw, great band and amazzzing song. So anyways, I use it as my username just about everywhere. and it just sounds cool apedosmil. It's also cool since it's a mix of english and spanish, ape dos mil = ape two thousand. I like it.

I chose UAE-Girl as my nickname, for one many reasons but the main is that i get made when i tell any one that i am from The United Arab Emirates and they say " where is that?? "

but when i tell them about Dubai they all go "Oh yes" people don't know that Dubai is in UAE.

Mine's very boring....my initials & birthday, makes it easy to remember & I'm not concerned overly much with my age....some days I feel ancient, some days I feel like my life is just getting started - just depends on which day you catch me.

P.S. UAE Girl - I know where the UAE is, what it stands for and that Abu Dhabi is not all the UAE consists of...I have had a number of occassions to interact professionally with companies in the UAE and have been impressed with the politeness of the interactions!
