Which is better to do tell a white lie or will it be better to tell the truth?
If telling the truth will get a person into trouble, is it better to tell a white lie? If a person told a white lie to get out of trouble, then will a person feel awful for telling a lie in the first place when it would have been better for this person tell the truth then to tell a white lie about it? if another person disagree with the other person for not telling the truth cause he/she is a friend of the person who told a white lie?

Do you agree?

There is no such thing as a "white lie", it is a lie no matter what the intentions for the deception are.

Gotta agree........ a lie is a lie......they don't come in degrees...

Once you start it....it is almost impossible to stop......

I'm not so sure, what if somebody's life is at stake?

Think its difficult to say that you would never lie.

I think wherever necessary we cant lie. Sometimes when we dont want to hurt someone we need to lie. Its fine to lie at such cases.

I think you can also tell a lie where you life is in real danger and can not escape out of it. But telling the truth is always the best thing. Today or tomorrow truth always comes with its light. I do not believe in any kind of white/black/red/... lie.

I prefer keeping silence and say nothing if I know that it can hurt a person. I know that it's not a good way out but... I don't deceive a peson in this case.

I once had an argument in Court with a Magistrate (an inferior criminal Judge.) He was trying to give me a rollicking for misleading the police, and misleading the Court. I didn't exactly lie; it was more in the nature of a terminological inexactitude.

My girlfriend had been accused of a minor motoring offence, and my devious testimony got her off. It was, of course, quite obvious in retrospect what I had done. But, by then, it was too late for the prosecution to repair the damage to their case.

I pointed out to the Magistrate that it would have been dishonorable, distasteful and ungentlemanly to grass my girlfriend.

I'm not sure who won that argument! But at least I won the Court case!

I have to laugh at some of these posts because some sound so preachy about lying - as if......

I lie when I need to but I don't lie about who I am and I happen to be a person with high integrity. I expect honesty on the important stuff and I don't put myself in situations that make me feel I have to lie but there are occasions when I don't want to hurt someone or confront someone so I lie to avoid it. Don't really believe I will burn in hell for it either.....

, after all you never hear of the police ~~lying~~ errm ........ being 'economical with the truth' in court

Though the courts (and the police) do tend to call 'a terminological inexactitude' as a 'technicality'

Mr Justice Darling was once presiding over a case where an Irish witness was obviously lying.

"Tell me, my man," asked the Judge, "in your country, what happens when a witness tells lies in Court?"

Telling the truth always hurt. However, I would prefer to get hurt or hurt people in telling the truth than to tell white lie. For, lesson will be learn in telling the truth while in white lie no matter what kind of lie would that be. It is still a lie and will tolerate people in whatever wrong action.
