Wait a minute -- I thought you had 3 TV channels. And I thought even Brits thought Britain was in the Dark Ages.
Let's see. No, people don't generally think Britain is in the Dark Ages. The usual stereotypes are:
They all have sticks up their bums, which is why Benny Hill and Monty Python are incredibly funny to them.
They gave us the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, and, well, that's about it.
For the geekier ones, oh yeah, that's where Dr. Who came from, right?
All of them still think of Americans as "Yanks" or "those Colonials".
They still think Australia and Canada belong to them, and long for the days of the old Empire.
They can't spell aluminum.
"Fancy a shag?" has nothing do do with one's preferences regarding carpet or dancing, at least not directly.
Graham Norton is their unofficial ambassador.
I am so going to get in major trouble for these....
Of course, all of these are mentioned in fun only. Most Brits I know have a decent sense of humor (notice I didn't spell that with a u) and would find these hilarious, or at the least worth a slight chuckle.
Do you have any stereotypes for Americans? (Uh, boy, I hope I didn't just open a can o' worms there....)

hahahaha! No, Britain is a throughly modern place. I haven't lived there since 2002 but even back then we had very cool things like internet terminals in the old red phone boxes in London
You're right about the rods up our bums!! And Benny Hill!
Aluminum?! Hahahaha!
hmmm. American stereotypes? Friendly folks, overly polite, work far too hard for their own good... um, and there are a few negative ones which I don't particularly like so I won't say...

With an adapter, yes, but you'll burn them out immediately if you don't use a transformer (everything runs on 220V).
Ever plugged an American appliance into a European outlet?

No, but I've heard it has bad consequences (heard about a soldier's Zune getting wiped after he charged in using an Iraqi outlet)
Ever played Fallout 3?
