No, anthropologists and other scientists have completely debunked the idea that human beings have any kind of instinct. We've learned our way OUT of instinct over the millenia of human development.

If you want to count an undeveloped brain, no memories, no experiences etc. 'stupid'..then baby humans could be labeled 'stupid'.

How is instinct being defined? Complex knowledge that isn't learned? (Either by being told, by trail and error, etc.) Bees make these bee hives to live in, that are structurally and architecturally more complex than New York City. And they're born with this knowledge.

Humans have some innate behavior programmed into us by our genes, like most people will agree on what pain is, and try to avoid it. This isn't very complex, though, it's more like a reflex, where the doctor hits your knee with a little hammer, and you swear at him or her.

Babies are stupid because they are innocent and do not no how to think.
They understand feelings and also share with who loves him.

Do you have any sources. The scientists I have seen don't say that. They talk about human instinct.

I am seriously debating whether I should worry that this subject is being taken this seriously. While I wouldn't discount the B.F. Skinner crowd throwing babies to the wolves, I'm shocked that no one has mentioned that his disciples have been pushing this Baby Einstein crap. Even if that garbage made a kid bright, I seriously doubt it would help it against the wolves, that is, unless it lucked up and choked one of 'em on the "educational material", thus turning the other wolves against the choking one.

Eventhough it makes sense, we should know that animals are independent the moment or a few days after they are born, where as human babies need nurturing for several months to years and a deep understanding about their surrounding to survive.

What is the need to test the intelligence level of babies at such an young age? Sure, they will be smart as they grow old...

This thread is so interesting and rather amusing, some people seem to have got a little worked up, mainly because of their obvious religious belief.

Firstly can i say, Love etc can be (and has been) broken down and taken apart by science, most types of "love" are simple chemical reactions in the brain, the feeling of lust, attraction and longing for love is just chemicals in your brain.

It is BECAUSE we (or at least those of us who are humans) have large brains that we have little instincts.
A fly which has a brain the size of a pin head relies (virtually) 100% on pure animal instint, all it wants/needs to do is find food, eat food, mate and die.

Where as larger creatures, humans included which have a larger brain can also use much more advanced chemical processes which allows us to override the animal instinct.

While i agree most of our natural animal instints are gone i do belive that humans in particular do have a instinct to do better and improve, and naturally want to better their work or how things are done.

@highanddry sorry but the idea that you can be "born" a sinner is just ridiuclous.

This is a very bitty post sorry

Maybe those babies were bottle feed and not breastfeed. Breastfeeding makes a baby smart.. ( I'm going to breast feed once my son is born)

Babies are not stupid. Stupidity is not using the intelligence you currently have.

Babies brains are not that mature so they can only do limited things. But they are not stupid. They are just doing what they are supposed to do.

i totally agree with you dude.. i think they are pretty smart on their age level

I love babies and I am amused at how this article was taken seriously by some.

For me it was more potshots thrown at the adult reading the article.

Everyone knows that babies are not stupid :P
