I have been a freelancer for a few years and have used many tools. Here are in my opinion the best ones.

Skype - A great way to communicate with clients
Jing - An excellent way to send video messages to clients via email. This is useful when the clients are in different timezones
Dropbox - A great way to share files with clients.
Basecamp - A very efficient and effective way to manage projects and increase productivity.

What are your favorite tools?

I still find Google Docs best for either personal use or for client-sharing docs purposes.

Skype as well is unbeatable!

The best tools I got are:
Skype- It provides the smoothest conversation and best video quality. I also like the screen sharing feature of it. It makes training a lot easier.
Dropbox- I just started using it and it makes file sharing happen in a snap.
Gmail- Google is still the best email service provider for me.

I'd say those Project/Task Management programs available to organize and track your projects, convenient reporting and invoicing apps

Teamviewer is also useful to use when your employer want to teach you something live.

I think all Google services are kinda treasure for freelancers. I also use No Kahuna for project management. Just because it's the simplest tool. I got used to it very quickly and for general projects (without much specified branches) - it's the best! I also use different file-sharing services to store and share my files. But very often it's useful to search smth on those services too (but on those which have this option and alas there are only few of them).
The best decision for that, which i found was FileTram. It's kinda file-sharing search engine, 'cause it indexes files posted at most of big file-sharing services and when you are searching on it, you can find appropriate files on all of those services! Once, i was looking up for a book and found it only there.

eBay has added a free PDF report generator for all of your current auctions. If you are working on a project, this is a great way to compile it, save it and send as a sample of your work to other prospective clients. Lisa
