Hi,

Not sure if this is right place to put this thread. Sorry if not.

I have some questions regarding milestones and payment for a project at freelancer.com.

Consider this example:

1) I post a project and then I awarded a candidate

2) this candidate set a bid for 600€ and a milestone of 300€

3) I set the milestone of 300€

4) Job is done, then I release the milestone

My questions.
1) Once I release the milestone I'm paying 600€ or just 300€ ?
2) Do I need to release the milestone at the beginning of the job or at the end of the job?
3) If by releasing the milestone I just pay 300€. How do I pay the rest? Do I set another milestone? Do I transfer funds to the candidate?

To be honest I find it a little confuse.

Thanks.

As I freelancer I can answer your question very easily.

1,2 & 3: The chosen one had a bid of 600€ and set a milestone of 300€. Which means they want you to place half of the project fund as milestone. If that is the case you will have to create a milestone of 300€ but only release it when a set amount of work is done which you both agreed on. The other 300€ will be paid after the job is 100% completed and you will release the last milestone. In my view milestone and such should be discussed before selection process for complex jobs.

Please do not get confused with creating a milestone and releasing a milestone. When you create a milestone the freelancer feels safe that his work won't be wasted and it also protects you from getting scammed. If you release the milestone before the work has even started there will be no refunds as far as I know.

Be safe and happy freelancing/outsourcing.

Thanks Ariblue,
Just to be sure I get it:

1- I place a milestone for 300€
2- Once I see that the job is going right I release that milestone
3- Once the jobs is completely done I set and release a second milestone of 300€

Am I right?

You are close but not 100% close.

1: Yes you create the milestone of 300€ before the freelancer starts work
2: Nope, once they have completed half the work and give it to you and you check and see if that is what both of you discussed to be half work, than you release the milestone. If you just see that they are working as discussed and release it earlier their is a chance of getting scammed and losing your money forever.
3: You have to set the second milestone after they have provided half of the work. You release it when the job is 100% complete.
