Somebody in Computer Networking

I am going to school for Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology. For one of my classes I have to do some career research, and one of the assignments is to interview someone in our field of study.

I figured I would ask here, if anyone is in the computer networking field, and wouldn't mind doing a brief email or skype interview, it would help me out a lot.

And of course we can always talk website development as well after the interview, I'm always interested in good networking.

Just curious if anyone here who operates a website has ever considered turning their website into a portable application of a sort? I don't *think* it would replace the online shopping experience, but if you were only accepting third party payments such as paypal, (or doing some sort of personal site or portfoliio) it might be a really good to think about because you can distribute the cd to people for job applications etc..etc..

What's your thought on that? Have you ever tried it? What's your experience with it? Waiting to hear from you guys.

Is the web in general an over-rated skill?

I would like to what you guys/gals think about whether the web is really just an over-rated skill set because some people (no matter how skilled they might be) will never amount to nothing on the web.

I am NOT including myself here, since my last site was back quite a few years ago when there was no such thing as web 2.0 and while my skill-set is good to design websites, I am not as dedicated anymore in web developing, so my designing has gone on the flip side. (Boy do I feel old) :(

I base this idea on many site owners giving up (shutting down their sites)...Now even if the recession is part of the problem, why would someone create a site, good enough to be called a 'web 2.0 site' and still shut it down? Ok, maybe they might lose a job (supporting it), but technically I thought people who build a website for business as an example, are preparing to be in it for the long haul? I just don't think that even a basic 'free-hosting' account is worth setting up with-out at least trying to make something off of it due to having to have a computer - electric to run it - and a skill to type, not to mention the ability to use an operating system, use ftp, an html editor, and web browser.

Wouldn't that partially be based on the fact that they probably aren't generating any revenue from their site(s)?
