I recently came across a website which had alot of links all over the webpage. Every keyword in the article was linked to itself, got me thinking, how many links is too many in an article.

I always try to put at least 3 links on there. Usually an affiliate link or two and possible a linkback to another article if keywords are in my article.

What are your thoughts?

I am beginning to think that Social Bookmarking tools like OnlyWire and AddThis are more of a problem than a help.

I often notice my social bookmarking showing up in SERP results....but for only one site...whether it be Redditt, Digg, Stumble, or jumptags.

If you mass submit the same bookmark....does Google treat them all as duplicates?

Would you be better off making a unique bookmark by hand at each social bookmarking site?

10 Key ways to build website traffic

1.) Search Engines

In addition to...

1.) Search Engines

Optimize your website to be search-engine friendly. Submit it to various search engines and directories.

In addition to major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN, it's worth submitting to lesser known web directories. If your website is listed in as many places as possible, it can boost your rankings in major search engines as well.

2.) Affiliate Program

Set up an affiliate program where you pay people a percentage of each sale for referring customers to you.

Spread the word about your affiliate program by submitting it to affiliate program directories and contacting the owners of related websites.

3.) Link Exchanges

Create a links page that will contain the links to other non-competing websites in the same industry.

Contact the owners of other websites with your proposal to exchange links. You will add their link to your links page, and they will link to your website in return.

4.) Post In Forums

Visit the online discussion forums where people in your target market like to gather. Post useful responses to people's questions, and include a link to your website at the end of your post next to your name.

5.) Comment On Blogs

Visit other people's blogs on the topic related to your website. Most blogs allow you to add comments about the issues being discussed.

Add insightful comments about the blog topics, and leave your website link. Your comment and your link will permanently remain on the blog website.

6.) E-Mail Signatures

Create an e-mail "signature" - your name, your website address and a short tagline describing the main benefit of your site. Set your e-mail program to automatically add your signature to every e-mail that you send.

7.) Traffic Exchanges

There are many times of traffic exchanges but the idea is the same - you team up with other webmasters, and they send you traffic in exchange for you sending them traffic. Search the web for "traffic exchange" to find those services.

8.) "Pass-Around" Strategy

Create something of value that people will pass around. It can be a report with useful information that you allow people to give away. It can also be some kind of cool and unusual webpage that people will want to e-mail to all their friends.

Of course, the pass-around item will include your advertisement and your link, spreading the word about your website.

9.) Writing Articles

Write articles on the topic related to your website, and include a link to your site in your author bio. Submit your articles to article directories, and allow people to publish your article in their newsletters and websites.

Your articles will spread around the web like wildfire. People will read them and visit your website.

The best part is that people who read your articles will regard you as an expert, and they will be much more likely to buy from you when they go to your website. How's that for a free publicity?

10.) Visit Other Forums and place your Ads. Just make sure that you do not SPAM the Forum with too much advertising over and over. Also try to locate the Forums that are closely related to item you are selling or advertising

This software outfit, based in Belarus, is running a renewal scam on SEOs who buy their software. What they are doing is including a limited subscription update of search engine information in the purchase. However when the subscription runs out, the software is blocked by them, stops using search data altogether. The annual renewal fee is equivalent to the purchase price of the software itself. It is pretty good software but not worth that.

What makes this a ripoff is that the buyers are not informed of this. Not even in the fine print. Buyers are simply told that updating of SE info will no longer occur if they don't resubscribe. And their staff explicitly told purchasers who had questions about this that the software would continue functioning, as is normal practice in the software business. Now they just ignore SEO purchaser complaints about this deception in their forum and continue the scam.

Anyway, I don't like posting downers or product complaints on a webmaster/seo forum. But people in our biz do buy software and this warning could save you several hundred dollars.

I am a bit curious on this topic...http://www.webmaster-talk.com/seo-talk-forum/166572-whats-difference-between-page-optimization-landing.html
...

I am a bit curious on this topic...http://www.webmaster-talk.com/seo-ta...n-landing.html

(started a new thread because I am trying to get a quicker reply on this)

Might an example of a successful "landing page" be using an index.html page on sub-domains as opposed of just creating the sub-domains and listing the actual content on the sub-domin index.html page itself?

The reason I ask this question is I wanted to know if a site I had in the past was actually using a "landing page"...I believe that it was, but I thought I would post this message to see what others had to say.

I had a site in the past with quite a few sub-domains, and for each sub-domain, I dropped an index.html page in each sub-domain that explained what was sold in that sub-domain.

Ex: I had an electronics 'department' on my site, hence it was electronics.mysite.com and on the index.html page inside that sub-domain, I had some relevant information regarding my electronics selection on my site and on that index.html page was a button to shop electronics section.

Is this what it's meant by utilizing a 'landing page'?

Google search results still list old out-of-date copies of my site. I have erased them or moved them to a different folder. Will Google just forget them in couple of days (because to the bots they will be "file not found" links)? If not, how do I go about getting search engines to refer only to the current copy of the site, and not the deleted (or relocated) files?
Am I going to have to delete the relocated files even though they are just back-up copies and are not being requested over the web? How do you deal with this kind of problem generally?
Thanks:)

Hello,

I'm a bit of a newbie to SEO, and this is my first real attempt at it. My site isn't very old (been up for about 2 months), and the site actually only went "live" about 2 weeks ago, so it's very new at this point.

I want my site to be as reputable as possible, so I plan to avoid using any black hat shortcuts that I might regret later. I'm working on getting some quality back links, and have started a small AdWords campaign to try and drive some initial traffic to my site, and submitted 1 or 2 of my blog posts to Social Bookmarking sites, but other than that I have not done anything.

I'm wondering how long it will take for my site to start showing up in the Google rankings. I have noticed that my PageRank is actually 0 right now. Is this just because my site is so new? Why don't I show up in the Google listings at all? My site is a free advertising network, but in searching for "Free Advertising Network" I don't find my site anywhere on the first 13 pages of Google -- I assume this is because my PR is 0.

How long should I expect to wait until I have a PR above 0? I assume time is a factor.

Any suggestions for a brand new site improving PR and getting better SEO results?

Thank you.

Hello,
My question is regarding using 301 redirects from one website to another and the way google views them. I have recently used a 301 redirect from a website to a newer page elsewhere and then noticed a boost in serps for the new page. I then redirected the links again to an even newer page.
Will google penalise my new page for constant shifting of my 100 or so links or will the serps improve again?
Does shifting inbound links more then twice work against a site or will it make no difference?
Thanks

I was glad to see one of my client's sites move up 101 spots today - though, it's still not close to the first page and I know it's going to get tougher since I'm running into legitimate competition.

But how I did it really puzzles me, I guess in a good way. I would leave a few backlinks from relevant forums and then leave regular sig links from SEO forums such as this. I did however create 15 Web 2.0 properties - but - these are not indexed as of yet, so I know that they didn't help.

There is going to be a lot of ppl disagree w/ me about this - but I'm believing now since I'm moving up (so far anyway) is because I kept the anchor text the same. In the past, I would have different variances of my anchor text, but this time, I thought I would try a little experiment - and so far, it is working.

What do you guys think? If you keep your anchor texts the same - will it hurt or help? Seemed like it is helping me - but I might be bragging a little to soon...

I've tried pingomatic, pingler, backlinks from already indexed sites such as my own and web 2.0 properties. I also hit popular SBM sites like Digg and Backflip.

Yes - they eventually got indexed, but some of them took a few months. A question here - has anyone tried sig links from popular forums/blogs? Will they index web 2.0 properties (or any un-indexed page) quicker?

I'm looking for someone to do some SEO on my website, my goal is top 5 positions in google for a number of 2,3 and 4 key words. I've been contacted...

I'm looking for someone to do some SEO on my website, my goal is top 5 positions in google for a number of 2,3 and 4 key words. I've been contacted by someone who has had a look at my website and is proposing this:

What Im trying to work out is, is his proposal worth $75 a month, they believe this will be a 6 month project but I can cancel at any point.

Here are some of the points observed on your site that needs some attention from search engines point of view:

1. Your site has many inner pages. So, you need a sitemap that can help search engine robots to find all the site pages to be easily accessible from one place.
2. The keywords you have mentioned has a very low density as compared to the exisiting content on the site. That is keyword to content ratio is low.
3. Pages under 'Maintenance' category are under construction. We need to include content on it.
4. Many pages have duplicate content or infact, same pages are accessible by 2 different clicks like Fire Alarm>Commercial & Fire Alarm>Maintenance
5. Google has not identifying any links coming from external sources to your site.

Based on the above observations, we have recommended solutions for your website in a monthly plan format to achieve the final goal. In a nutshell, your site needs proper on-site optimization and a good link popularity for which we have customized the timeline for implementing the techniques, to suit your site's current scenario.

On-site Initial Setup Phase: (Month 1)

1. Identify and rectify all anti-google elements on the site.
2. Include keywords in page title, meta tags on the relevant landing page
3. Improve keyword to content ratio by incorporating keywords in the content of the relevant pages
4. Create additional content or if necessary page(s), to improve the scope of including the keyword appropriately.
5. Include a sitemap to get access to all site pages at one place.
6. Give descriptions to images and title tags using the keyword wherever possible.
7. Submit Google sitemaps and set up a blog to create more content and links to the site.
8. Setup google analytics to monitor traffic, keywords & site performance

Off-site Link Building Phase (Month 2 Onwards)

1. Create & submit a press-release stating the launch of this website and other similar reports
2. Create & submit articles describing your business in an indirect way
3. Submit content to forums and reply to relevant posts
4. Submit site to relevant web directories
5. Exchange links with relevant websites
6. Regularly post content on the site blog and also participate in commenting on other relevant blogs
7. Submit blog to blog directories
8. Create business profiles on social networking sites and exchange information and content with relevant groups (b2b, b2c) in the network
9. Bookmark all the new & existing content of your website/blog and also any other relevant content you find on web, on your account created on social bookmarking sites.
10. Make changes on-site everymonth to keep the keyword in focus and to make search engines visit the site frequently.

What are your thoughts?

Hi Guys,

Let me brief my problem. I own a domain(Link in signature) and I have registered this website on Jul-2009.
I have built a decent website, but google is not crawling my website. Here are the stuffs that I tried.

1) Built a website with original content. No duplicate stuffs is showing by copyscape.com as of date.
2) I have build decent amount of backlinks that can aid for crawling.
3) I visited internet archive and found that the previous owner of my domain has did keyword spamming in his website.
4) So I raised a reconsideration request two time from Google webmasters tool. I just got a default message from google team as follows.
"We received a request from a site owner to reconsider how we index the following site.
We've now reviewed your site. When we review a site, we check to see if it's in violation of our Webmaster Guidelines. If we don't find any problems, we'll reconsider our indexing of your site. If your site still doesn't appear in our search results, check our Help Center for steps you can take."
5) I can see google bot is visiting my website daily(Found this from crawl data from webmasters tool)
6) You can see this site:mywebsite.com doesn't retrieve any results.
6) But still Google is not crawling my website.

Bottom line: I have followed every guideline of webmaster guideline and it just hurts when Google doesn't like my website

Can any experienced webmaster. Thanks a lot.

Thank

Hi there

I'm new to this forum so apologies if this kind of question has been asked many times before. I've developed a new website using an ecommerce shopping cart system (CS Cart) that seems quite search engine friendly, for example it allows me to enter Page Title, Meta Description, Meta Keywords & Search Words in the admin section for each product.

My domain name was only registered a few months ago, but it is returning results on a few phrases in Google, however i want to have proper SEO work done on the site to boost it in the rankings. Now i've had SEO work done before by a freelancer on another site who littered my homepage with keyword after keyword, almost rendering the text unreadable. I do not want this to happen to my new site.

So i'm asking if SEO work is something that is easy to learn & do myself, or is it just better to pay someone who knows what they are doing (either a good freelancer or company). If it is better to pay someone experienced to do it, does anyone have any recommendations please?

I know link-building is important, is this something that can be left to cheaper link-builders to do rather than the more expensive SEO guys? I have used a platform called Odesk before, where there are many people available to do link building at very cheap rates.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

Mike

Hi,

My local council site (.gov.uk) has recently implemented a 'splash screen' to ask the user if they would like to view content in English or Welsh before they can enter the site.

Will this affect the ability for search engines to properly crawl for pages within the site or does it not matter in this case because it is a large government site?

Thanks.

I want to write articles for related content other than what is on my website to try and rank higher in the search engines but i am a little worried that if people link to the articles that the words they use to link to the articles wont help me rank higher on my home page of the website just the individual articles themselves. I may recieve more traffic to my webpage but the quality of the visitors would be a little less as they may not be interested in the product i have to offer just to the article that i wrote. This may generate some income as i intend to place affiliate links in the articles but perhaps my products sales will lower? Do i have the right thinking? Anyone care to share their opinions on how adding articles slightly off topic to your webpage will effect the sales of the products on your website?

I've always had different variences of my anchor text - thinking if I don't do that, I may run into trouble other wise.

I read today about a backlinking company that said that they do not vary their anchor text and their advice is not to do it - or it may hurt you.

So which is true? Do I switch up a little on my anchor texts or keep it the same?

When people backlink - they leave links on this special site or that high PR site. After they leave it, they go to the next site and leave a backlink. They forget all about getting the page indexed where they left the link. This is very important - if it doesn't get indexed - it doesn't do you any good.

Yes, eventually, the page that you left your backlink on will eventually get indexed - but it may take a few months. Some people, seeing this, turn to pingomatic or pingler to get these pages indexed - or they may even social bm the page. I can only say from my exerpierence, that this rarely works for me. I'm pretty impatient, so I try a different approach.

If I want a page where I left a link on indexed quickly, I've found that I can do it two ways. Let's say I create content on a new web 2.0 property and it isn't indexed yet. I would leave a sig link on a high traffic forum and see that it usually becomes indexed a lot faster than if it was bookmarked or pinged.

Another way is this. I have a website "in the harbor" that has a PR of 3 that the Googlebot visits quite often. I would leave a link or two to a Web 2.0 property, and it would get indexed rather quickly. In fact, it's better than when I leave sig links on high travelled forums.

Anyway, that's my advice and personal experience. I hope this can help someone. I'm open to any comments or suggestions...
