Google remembers old out-of-date copies of my site.

Google search results still list old out-of-date copies of my site. I have erased them or moved them to a different folder. Will Google just forget them in couple of days (because to the bots they will be "file not found" links)? If not, how do I go about getting search engines to refer only to the current copy of the site, and not the deleted (or relocated) files?
Am I going to have to delete the relocated files even though they are just back-up copies and are not being requested over the web? How do you deal with this kind of problem generally?

Advice on database issue

Hi there,

I am making a site to allow people to make their own profiles, just need some advice to get my head in the right direction.

Once a person has filled out a form of say:

username
password
name
age
etc.

It will insert them values into the database. But if I want to display this information on their profile page so others can see too, how would this be done. Obviously through SQL statements, but my confusion is that once they have inserted this information, how will i get the correct information to show on the profile, which this person has inserted. How can this be generated automatically to the page, without having to know their userID or username prior.

so in the name field of the page you would have a statement like

$query = SELECT name FROM person WHERE ID = 1;

but if they have just filled out the member form, how will you straight away see the profile information they have entered when they press submit as you wouldnt know the ID that they are?

sorry if this is confusing to read, its hard to explain what i mean in words.

If not tables then what else can you use for layout?

I have read table layouts not being a good choice for a website design as it is slower and problems can occur easilty.
My website is http://www.thai-discovery.com and my whole layout is just a big table with a few rows and columns.

If not table, what else would be good to use? I have tried the frames in DW CS3 and they just seem weird.

Any idea's? Or do I need to learn how thr frames work?

Hello everyone! Let me get right to it by saying I just found out I'm going to be a father so WOO HOO!! I just got married and life is great.

Anyway, I like designing in photoshop and I used to make small websites for myself really. Lately I've been doing it more and more and find myself wanting to learn more about everything web related.

How to resume foreach loop?

Is there a way to resume or continue with the next $value of the foreach loop if the query result is null or empty? If so, how please? The way this is supposed to work is $_POST['select'] contains multiple zip codes. As $value is iterated, vacpct is selected from the database to be placed in an array. The problem is, if a zip code has 0 (zero) for vacpct, the result of the query is null or empty (not sure which) as only zip codes that have vacpct that are greater than 0 (zero) are to be selected. When this happens, the action stops, and the next $value(s) or zip codes are not itereated. I need a way to continue with the next $value when this happens. Thanks in advance.

I downloaded Jon designs javascript smooth gallery-which I found a link to while searching for gallery for my website... I have gone over and over what I am doing, but I cant get it to work as a gallery, I have no idea what I am doing wrong and its probably something simple and staring me in the face. I have implemented a free javascript for client-side shopping cart into my site and works great. Only, at the very end of my work i realize there is no possible way to email the cart items to me! The reason is because the script is originally written to checkout to PayPal so i guess either i have to recode something, or i gotta use some trick.

So I've recently upgraded to IE 8, but now when I try to use IE 6, dropdown menus, etc no longer work as the once did.

(I use IE 6 to just check and see how things look in that older browser)

Can someone please help in why this is happening or what could be done to get things to look correct again in IE 6?

Better yet, can some kind soul who has IE 6 just check my site to check if the dropdown menu is working for it?

Css pixels to percents

I have been building a website for a client and created it initially in pixels. However, this was not the best idea as the client is now asking for me to change it to percents.

I can not find an easy way to change everything over to percents and it killing me

I have used many divs in the document - and 1 table.

I have read how to convert it using simple math - but every time I try it does not turn out.

Is there an easy way to change it over? Or do I have to go through the process of resizing all pictures etc?

I am using a style sheet. Gah - I knew I bit off more then I could chew! haha

I tried to change the style sheet last night for a good 4 hours and had to revert back to my original save.

I am just very confused when I set the main div a lets say 75%. Then I have two columns inside that div - which were set at 20% and 80%. This made the second column jump down to the next line - and also didn't change any of the text or pictures within side the divs.

hmmmmm

These divs also have cell padding - which I assume is part of the problem?

Hi again,

I never believed that directory submissions can help us to at least index our pages soon. Many people says that it brings traffic. But its a sweet lie I think. It will never bring traffic.

Yesterday, we have added a dofollow business directory to our services ( Sorry chris as it didn't start as a stand alone one ). But just now i made a search to know whether the links in the directory or atleast the directory is indexed in google. But to my surprise it leads for that keyword :D . Previously this happened once when we started a blog and still we are on top for that keyword on google.

Our 'dofollow business directory' which started just before a day indexed soon and ranks top on google for the same keyword. I could see that there is no search for this keyword. But how this happened even without any seo?

ASP.NET: Passing Credentials from one site to another.

Essentially what is going to happen, is our company (X) will host a login page for a program hosted on two other companie's servers (Y & Z).

If your credentials match up to one (Y) then you will be directed to that site. If your credentials match up to the other (X) then you will be directed to that site. Both of which will be loging you in by the credentials posted in the login form.

I thought of two ways to do this:

1) via query string (not the best idea)
2) via check box that says you are logging in to company (X) or company (Y)... then redirecting you to the appropriate location and passing the information by something like This:

Do you think either of these would work? If so, how would I go about getting that connection between the sites?

How do I retrieve the last line of a file?

WHILE(! feof()), during which
I write to a file ($wfile).

Once done, I need to make a change
in the last line of the output file.

How do I do this?

I have been doing some thinking lately about my website. I originally wanted to charge a membership fee for access to information. There is a alot of websites related to mine that provide some information for free. The only thing is alot of them just refer them to those companies because they earn referral income. However, mine provides legit companies that i have actually dealt with and consider them reputable. I was charging $10 with an option to be charged $5 if they complete a survey. I would not recieve as many customers as if it charge it for free obviously but would it be worth it to make it free and just collect the referral income? Just a little advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
