We are GoVacuum.com. We are planning a platform change currently and looking for suggestions. We are an e-commerce website that sells on multiple channels Ebay, Amazon, Sears, NewEgg, etc. We have built custom feeds from scratch that automatically brings in the data (sales, shipping, etc) in and out from these marketplaces.

We have been thinking about Magento, but we're really looking for any ideas on platform recommendations that will not limit us. We will need a great front end that is easy to navigate and search with a new look. We also are requiring an easy, but powerful back end. One that allows phone sales to be entered. We are looking for something that has (or at least has the ability to integrate) great CRM & CMS.

Any ideas or suggestions would be great. We are also open to contracting with someone who has experience migrating to this platform that can do what we are looking for.

Hi - A quick response to your question...We are a multi-channel commerce integrator and we deliver solutions using both Magento and hybris. It really depends on what your budget is and what you mean by multi-channel.

If you mean just web and mobile and have a small budget then Magento might work well for you. If your definition of multi-channel is more comprehensive to include online, mobile, phone, fax and brick and mortar retail then Magento is not a good choice and you should look at a more robust and flexible platform like hybris.

We have seen nightmares when companies have requirements that Magento doesn't support and they end up doing a lot of customizations that never deliver what they really need.

On the flip side, Magento is a very good and cost effective solution if it meets your requirements but it is not a multi-channel platform.

Hope that helps! If you need more info/details, let me know.

One of the downsides for Magento is that they have upgrades on their software frequently, meaning that if you are utilizing third-party applications you may face spending time solving these hiccups every software upgrade. I recommend looking into consistent ecommerce platforms like Shopify, Vend, and 3dCart.
