Hey Tycoons

I sell items on eBay and I am looking to really boost sales. What are some eBay alternatives that you guys have used and what are your experiences?

Would love to hear about how you go about distributing your products outside you having your own website.

Back when I was selling, I put a link to my site on my auctions and on my "About Me" page. It generated some traffic and some direct sales. I'm not sure if eBay has updated any rules about this since then though.

If you're selling a niche product, you may want to find forums, groups in social networks, etc. where people may be looking for that specific product.

For example, if you're selling comic books, post in forums and groups about comic books. Just be sure to follow the rules of those forums and groups.

Good luck with your sales.

Local/national classifieds, craigslist, web sites that deal with your specific product and have a 'for sale' section, etc. Did that help?

You can try Ubid.com or Amazon.com . Only select the site which is trustworthy and Ebay is the top on the list.

It may depend on what country you happen to be in of course but Kelkoo and Google products are two that come to mind.

I think selling on Multiply http://www.multiply.com is one alternative, although I'm not quite sure of their TOS and if they have buyer/seller protection.

Also it's a good idea to list your product in Google Product Search.

Basically, what it does is it connects your items to shoppers searching for them on Google. Your items will show up on Google Product Search

You can find more info here: http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/products/submit.html

Sedo is a good place to sell and buy many things you are interested in.

Well, it is if you are interested in buying overpriced hostnames.

I agree with everything they have suggested. But if you like to have total control over your products i think it's best for you to create your own online store.

The OP was asking for ebay alternatives.
Google Shopping is only a search directory.

Kelkoo does not sell products it is a Shopping Comparison site !

If you like auction sites or market places have you tried
Ebid.net
Bonanza

That suggestion of Multiply looks interesting...

The problem with setting up your own website is getting hits!

I see many home type catalog stores with very high Alexa ratings, but it is very hard to contact them and get your product accepted into their range.

It is, but you can upload your productl range and purchasers are directed to your pages to purchase the item.

Does that in some way make it NOT what the OP was after?

Other than eBay, I've had my best luck with Craigslist.

Craigslist is a lot more geographically limiting though.

Great !

Thanks for that !

I had not realised that you could do that with Comparison Shoppng sites!

Now I just have to find one that does not want 50cents a click !
