Starting an online business is definitely not for everyone. I think that before investing money into something a retiree should work as a freelancer for some projects, learm basics of SEO, internet marketing, SMM etc. And of course choose the right niche where he/she can be an expert.
Tons of internet start ups die before they grow up enough and it's all because of pure planning process and lack of knowledge.
Also if you speak about real online business you should have a good team to work together as you won't be able to do everything on your own, believe me.

Yes it all depends what sort of skills and talents you have.
Its very competitive out there.
Everyone in the world wants to make a living on line, not just retrirees.
And no one is going to tell you the best way to do it or they would lose their customers !
So you will just to have do some reserach.
But you will need either some skills, or talent or some money.

Another piece of nonsense, you only have to look at some of the better quality threads here, were there any many, many people who proved truly GREAT advice on how to run your business, and how to market your products. A GOOD business person is NOT afraid of competition, it is what drives them on to better products and bigger markets.

Only the useless and hapless fail to learn from what others are willing to teach them, which is unfortunately the case of so many at forums especially the eastern Asian members to only accept as fact the very old and VERY out of date information from ten - fifteen years ago that they have been indoctrinated with.

Sure! But would YOU announce that you have found a whole new marketplace and invite some competition???

Competition will arrive soon enough without you helping it on it's way.

That's what I am saying, If I found that blue bananas ares selling well I am not going to tell all the other online sellers.

But I will help them in any other way I can.

And that is what many people do, you build on your reputation as a well known purveyor of blue bananas, and then you may offer your services for hire as a "Blue Banana marketing consultant". After that you probably don't need to sell any more bananas.
