Depends, paypal has been around for quite sometimes, which translate to many already having an account with paypal

an online shopping cart is better. It will bring your website to a whole new level. My company trippled in sales when we added one.

I am using Google checkout because of the many discounts that I often find on famous / large e-commerce websites. Google checkout will be much more popular in the future.

LOL -- same here, but I just started using Google's Checkout with a few products and made my first sale over the weekend. So far I'm very pleased with it -- just getting to know a new set-up again, but they make it pretty intuitive. So, right now on the products I'm using Google, I've also left the PayPal option. In other words, if you wanted to, you could use both, too.
I've been very happy with paypal, too.

Actually, a lot of people round the world have a PayPal account and this payment method is really very popular. I think it's very convenient for quite a big number of people and besides, it's one of the most dependable, sure payment methods used for online shops. To tell the truth, I have never tried Google checkout, but I think it would be the best solution if you offer both Google and PayPal to your visitors.

I think i read somewhere that Google Checkout will have discounts and such if you're running adwords and/or adsense. I think Google checkout will defiantly catch on soon. I hope to play around with it in the near future

I just made a nice sale and processed it through google checkout, where normally I would get about $40-$50 taken out in fees from my processing company Google took out nothing. Until the end of this year they have 0 fees for sellers, after the end of the year for every dollar in fees I think you'll be getting something back for use in adwords. Either way I love the current no fees, gives a nice savings.

I am working on both Payments Processors. Both are working fine and simple to integrate.
I will prefer paypal...

I would prefer the paypal if I have a credit card which I can use on ATM.
But I don't have a card, beacuse I'm in China, so I had to use the check.

I agree, Nate L ... I think it's definitely going to take off and get more popular. I'm going to be integrating it more very soon. I've been really pleased with it so far.

I have used both google checkout and paypal, I find google checkout great as it looks lot more professional than paypal... whenever I see a site that asks you to pay via paypal I instantly think (14 year old child who wants to make a few £££ but not old enough to have his own business bank account) google checkout is a little harder to integrate but has so many options to play with, for example the IPN/callback has around 12 types of callback...

Well i think google works only for US and UK at the moment so if your running a global business you will lose sales from other part of the world.
And when it comes to paypal, even though they've been in the business for a long time they don't support every country, large number of countries are left out, but i think they have recently made some changes by adding some more countries but still they provide limited services for vendors.
There' are are other popular options as well like 2checkout.com, worldpay, moneybookers etc etc So as far as business success is concern it would be better if you can offer more than just one payment option. It can be little confusing at times but in the customers point of view its a very good strategy. Because if you have an option to pay by using your most familiar online payment processor it will make your client happy.

PayPal is much better if you want to accept payments (or want to do so in the future) from users outside North America. Google do not have any opfficial plans to expand to international users in the near future.
