I have a website (with just over 1000 registered users) that have 'opted in' to received email broadcasts approximately three or four times each year.

I just sent out a broadcast email - breaking up the email recipients to no more than 50 addresses per email - and AOL bounced virtually everything back to me with a statement that this must be spam because the emails had the same subject line....

Does this make any sense - and if the answer is yes - how can I get around the AOL restriction so my users will get the emails they requested.

Thanks

JohnJ

It might not be the subject line.

Are you sending HTML-based emails? If you are, I've experienced issues in the past with graphics being blocked on certain ISPs and web-based email providers (Hotmail, Yahoo!, CompuServe, and GMail all come to mind.)

I'm not sure if AOL is on that list but it may well be since if I remember correctly, CompuServe got bought out by AOL (not sure and I'm on the road now.)

Try sending an AOL member an HTML-based email without any graphics in it and see if that works.

Send another mail to any one of the IDs and see if that bounces back. If it does...th eproblem doesnt have anything to do with the subject line.

IF you send an email with a different subject line, that is. Mind you, I tend to agree...I don't think it's the subject line either.

aol can be picky. they do have a procedure to go through to do a feedback loop - whereby you are registering yourself to send them email.

you might also want to spread it out and make sure your sever isn't making too many concurrent connections to the aol mail servers.

Rather then using AOL or any free emails I think you can use a mailing list that is php based. If you have your own website that means you must be having a server to host your own mailing list. In that case you can download phplist. I have been using this system since 3 years for my weekly newsletter and it allows you to send mail to max 9999 users at one go. Means its just simply great & easy. You can download it from http://www.phplist.com/

are you using AOL to send the messages? or are they AOL customers, and AOL is blocking it for them?
