Just got a notification from ebay saying they've banned certain types of payment.

Fair enough, get rid of Western Union and Moneygram to reduce fraud. But:

Quote:
Under the above criteria, eBay does not permit sellers to solicit payment for eBay items through Greenzap.com, e-gold payments, eBullion, and Stormpay. Sellers may not solicit payment through “topping off” of a seller’s pre-paid credit or debit card.
Hmmm. Looks like an attempt to limit much of the competition PayPal has - unfair, I say, but hey it's unfortunately their choice.

They want all, they just have a too high commission, now they aren't happy and want more.

As i'm sure ebay will benefit from this statement, I do also think that it is the right move. If there is only a few accepted transaction companies (or one) then the chance of fraud is going to be decreased. If ebay gets a bad reputation for fraud then these companies will suffer also (due to it being their fault). This will make them concentrate on security more so than if there were loads of companies where those bad ones could be at fault.
Overall, safe for the users of ebay, bad news for fair competition.

If you look at ebay these days there are a lot of sellers but not all that many bidders.

Too many people selling the same thing, too many trying to sell drop ship items and way too many reading the get rich on ebay e-books.

Agreed, definately. Although it doesn't have that has much to do with ebay banning various methods of payment.

Edit: Been on an eBay spending spree recently. For a non-regular user, £225.44 in less than a week is quite a bit!

Comment to Sarge299

I fully agree with the get rich on ebay comment. Alot more sellers are placing their products on ebay, which is giving the consumers better value as there are less bidders going for them. I've bought MP3 players at 99p. How can people expect the large profits these books offer when the market has totally changed.
It will all even out in the end with part-time sellers giving up on the poor profits, leaving only the strong sellers that can afford to wait through this over populated market place.
We just have to wait for the noveilty to wear off.

I predict the next move, as they're taking over the payment merchant market, to jack up the transaction fees for sellers using PayPal. It's going to hurt web hosts (like me) and other places that accept PayPal as a payment method. I seriously need to consider getting a merchant account and getting off PayPal before they get too much worse.

I might do the same thing in their shoes. It's not like poeple are going to drop eBay and start using another auction site. They have sellers lock, sotck and barrel
