I don't mean "which shopping cart packages are available" or "who uses shopping cart software". I mean who builds their own custom carts? Am I the only one?

initially my organization was planning on building one from scratch but we moved away from it because of the experience we had in the past. besides, it seems that there are some pretty good shopping carts out there that are pretty robust.

the only problem we are having is finding a shopping cart package that would integrate well with QuickBooks and our Maximizer CRM. Any suggestions?

I've always built my own too. There really isn't much to it.
The DB side is a table with a list of product ids. The object side (read code) is just an object with add remove methods and ORM mapping to keep the db in-sync.

Count me in too Adam.
Though it's been a long time I haven't done one.

I sometime feel like an artisan, as I never re-used a script made by someone else (except for my blog, call me lazy...)

You sure are, Hirst.

Seriously, I was just trying to figure out who avoids the off-the-shelf stuff.

No - I never built one from scratch - but I have customized the cart from my current employer so much you could say its my own, almost became original over time.

I avoid the off the self packages.. they never fit spec exactly and its quicker to start from scratch than trying and hack other ppls code
