A web site on it's own isn't a business, it's a form of communication so your business can interact with your customers and vice versa.

Put into context your business might use these tools to communicate with your customers..

Telephone
Email
Web site
Fax
Magazine/newspaper advertising
One to one meetings

if a website in its self isnt a business, than would a collection of websites that make money be a business? The reason i ask is because I would indeed like to get a business registered..... I have three different content websites that make money off ads. So would you say it is wiser to get all 3 sites registered under one business name or register each site seperatly as a business for tax purposes?

To my way of thinking solely running a content based site would be a "service" so yes I suppose that would be defined as a business - as for the tax implications that would depend very much on the tax laws for your country so I'd say you need to talk to a tax or financial adviser to get the best answer.

If you are making significant money, then it makes sense to register your website as a business.
If you are not earning much, then save yourself the trouble.
