I was going to create either an ASP or C#.Net package from scratch for a customer of mine who wants an online catelog like a shopping cart, but no shopping cart if that makes sense. So I need a code package that has an admin panel where you can add products to the database and upload photos as well. I was thinking of doing it myself but Im guessing for the cost I could find a package out there somewhere thats probably cheaper and more time condusive rather than creating a monster from scratch. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations on something like this that you've come across I'd appreciate some advice. Im not an expert coder by any stretch so its going to be a chore to create it from scratch. Anyway if anyone can help me out it would be great. Thanks in advance.

I don't know about .NET, but having used a number of ASP-based shopping carts, it's more cost-effective to build your own.

1) You don't have to pay licensing.
2) Most ASP coders don't know their *** from a hole in the ground.
3) You can customize it a lot easier.
4) They're more user- and search-engine-friendly, because they're built for the markets you're targeting.

DIY is truly the only way to fly here. Besides, if you're looking to get more work, this is the best solution for you. It keeps you busy and you learn more (in other words, you increase your own toolkit.)

I'll just throw in a "me too" post and agree with Adam on all 4 points.

Im taking the mans advice! I already started reading, researching and coding to build a asp.net 1 package. The way I see it I should be able to use it more than once and I'll have the package on file to do more sites in the future w/out any liscensing crap! Thanks gents
