The question has nothing to do with location, if you can come up with a product or service that people want to buy then you should be able to sell it from anywhere.

Like Jamie said, the location is unimportant. Unique products and services are.

If you're targeting Egyptian tourist products, though, you might want to sell like mini Sphinx paperweights and maybe brass Cleopatra heads.

It seems like you got one advantage right now,

A very unique location. use this opportunity to sell cheap Egyptian products or souvenirs to wealthy Americans for high prices. The key would be in marketing and representation.

My 2 cents...

Hi Mohab - Please pack me up some Cous Cous and a bowl of good hot Shorba. If you can get it to me fresh, I'll gladly pay

Seriously - choose your products and market carefully. Decide if you are going to try and sell high volume/low price - or low volume/high price. In the export game it's almost impossible to sell small quantities of anything except consumer products to the wealthy. They won't care what shipping and duties are if they see something they want.

You might consider a review of the various manufacturers in your area and see what products you may be able to offer in quantity to the international market on a wholesale basis.

YOUR COTTON !!!

You're world famous for your cotton and cotton textiles !!!

Plus there is the beauty products collected from the red sea clay. Egypt is famous for that.

The various varities of olive oil you have.

That all natural "aphrodisiac" and male "libido" enhancer that you derive from lettuce seeds. (Can't get it any where else in the world)

Then there is pyprus paper. And various other tourist junk.

Or...
Talk to several hotel owners.
Get a couple of people to be tour guides.
Tack on someone to be an interpreter.

And put together an visiter package !!!!

The list of things is virtually ENDLESS

At present time, a group of friends and I are building scale-model replicas of the Giza plateau. We have been able to use "Ferraro-Rocher"'s (a chocolate candy maker) plastic pyramids for the 3 pyramids at Giza, and 1" tall pyramids, and 2" tall pyramids commercially bought from egypttalks.com. These plastic pyramids have been sprayed with "Plasti-Kote" "Stone Touch" projekt paint. The shade we used was "Santa Fe Sand". The sphinx, however, has been a problem as we have not been able to find anyone that makes a sphinx replica smaller than 4" (which would be out of scale in proportion to the pyramids in the model but we went ahead and bought a 4" long sphinx until we could find a 2" long one). The sphinx we need should be about 2" in length. We have found a commercial "incense-burner' that is about 11" long, and has a small sphinx attached to it. We have sent away for it hoping it will do the job! Now, we have gone through all this trouble to build such a model, but I am thinking a lot of other people would probably BUY a model of the 3 pyramids (complete with the 3 satellites for the large pyramid, and the 3 satellites for the small pyramid, and the 1 utility pyramid for the medium pyramid) and the Sphinx, all to scale. You could possibly sell a kit in a limestone color made of plastic, or some other man-made material, or wood, stone, etc. along with a diagram of the placement of the pyramids in relation to each other, the Sphinx, and the topography of the Giza plateau. I think that not only would individuals would buy your kit, but possibly a number of educational institutions if you advertise on the web through your own website, and in places like www.craigslist.org, etc. I hope this gives you an idea for a product to sell. There are plenty of out-of-scale pyramids/sphinxes on the market, but only 1 CARDBOARD (ugh!) MODEL of the Pyramids. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. UaShems.
