Hi,

I have been developing web sites for a while now and I have heard some information about mis-spelled typo domains being profitable.

Does anyone here know if it's a good idea to register typoed domain names and see if they get any traffic? From these domains I could send traffic to my other site(s) perhaps.

I looked around and found one website, http://www.mispeller.com that has listings of domain typos. YOu can also search for a domains typos. Does this seem like a good way to find typo domains? The domains seem to have good data but I do not know how accurate the traffic numbers are, or where they get them...

Does anyone else do this? Any tips would be appreciated, thanks!

It can be profitable but spammy. People made lots of money on misspellings for Katrina, and there have been porn sites like nasa.com. People wouldn't do it if they weren't making money. But they have to trade in their ethics first.

I personally would not go for any misspelled domain names unless it made some real sense to my website and not cause confusion between other sites which had a similar tone to their domain name.

You can do it as long as the original name has no TradeMark on it, many companies test thousands of domains daily and keep the ones with traffic.

It's called domain tasting.
