i'd say go with a trusted registrar like eNom, godaddy, moniker, or namecheap (yes, I know namecheap is a reseller)
If you need a whois protection (privacy whois) then namecheap is the cheapest, you'll get a free private registration with new registration.
Avoid using godaddy private registration, since you will need to disable it when you wanted to do transfer, then wait for 60 days after that to do a transfer.
