Best registrar?

I've registered a lot of names through 1and1 and bought some that wound up getting me a bulkregister account but its too hard to do things like update name servers at 1and1 and way too expensive at Bulkregister. What IYO is the best registrar to work with? The two cheif things for me are cost per year and the ability to update multiple domains at once.

I don't think there's a "best registrar", every registar has it's pros and cons and appeals to people differently.
I for one love my current registar Godaddy.com, i also have an account at domainsite and enom.

Like DBay said i dont think there is a such thing as a "Best registrar"
For me i use namecheap.com i can update 5 or so domains at a time and the price to me is fair $8.88 with free whois Guard If you would like to use it.
But thats just my opinion and i'm sure you will get a lot more people who like differn't registars.

I'm currently using yahoo and godaddy.
the best out of the two has got to be godaddy, mainly becuase of service. no one on yahoo ever gets back to you. plus godaddy always have offers on and is easy to use.

I like the interface on namecheap..nice and simple. simple is good
Godaddy is great for the coupons and the fact you can constantly get reasonable, $6.95 domains there
I use to like registerfly, but there backend admin is all over the shop lately.
Any of the big registrars are ok though.

I'm using NameCheap for about a year, and they are superb, their Control Panel is best. Their domain price is really cheap $8.88 only, and If you use coupon code then you can get it for $7.99

As a good domain registrar I may recommend Enom , and I also heard they are already the 2nd biggest registrar now.
cheers

GO GO GADGET GODADDY! (Hands down)
NEVER, EVER, EVER REGISTER.COM (Humiliations galore upon them! And I hope they read that! )
I found if I snag an account with Commission Junction, I can get the BlueRazor rate with the comission I make.

The Helm people have been quite helpful in explaining their control panel. The webspace2me people (person?) has not been helpful at all, and I suspect a scam.
First, have you noticed a second charge for up to £25, from a company called CG Manchester? This is from Credit Geneva, and their Merchant Account T&C contain this little gem:
Quote:
D. Verification By Credit Card.
In Order to verify Supplier account, Supplier authorizes CG to Charge a ramdom amount between 0.01 and 25.00 GBP from his credit cards, that amount will be available into Supplier Account after Supplier became verified.
|
I paid £24, and discovered it after the fact. So the service turns out to be more expensive than expected. But they have also failed to register the domain, so I cannot actually make use of the service. So it looks like they're just taking the money and not folowing through on the advertised service.

Lucky for you that you only paid the £2. But you might want to double-check.
I can also upload to the ftp area - but there is no URL, two weeks after I paid, I still get a 404 when I go to the web address they offered to register. They also say that the domain name I paid for is still available. It shouldn't be. So that means they haven't registered it, even though I have an accont, an FTP space, and a merchant credit facility.

Yeah, that's what it should do. But instead I get a "Server not found"or a 500 (unknown host). It's because they never registered the domain with ICANN or whoever.
If your site is up and running, then they finished the job properly. In my case they bunked off early and haven't come back.

I've just checked this in two ways.
1. using the browser FTP function I have looked at ftp://user@xx.xxx.xxx.xxx
2. Using the Hem Control Panel, I've looked at the FTP settings.
user is set to upload to \wwwroot\, and that is where my current index.htm sits. This can be further verified by going into the File Manager and looking at the contents of wwwroot.
But even if I had the files in the wrong folder, if the domain name were correctly assigned a DNS number etc, I should get an error like 'no page found' rather than 'no server found'.
Furthermore, webspace2me.co.uk should have responded to my emails about it. Over a ten day period I sent sent several, without getting any response. Does that tell you anything?
