What happens if a domain name registrar shuts down?

I'm looking at cheap domain names and wondering how long some of the sellers can stay in business, and whether there are risks in buying from them (although the expensive ones could also go broke).

If I buy a domain name from one and they go broke, what happens to my domain name? How do I renew it?

Thanks

if its not covered in the contract, it is up to them. my advice is to go with the big boys, I use netfirms and yahoo. they are both resellers of some of the biggest domain companies out there, they wont go down anytime soon.

But you have to take very good care when you are with Yahoo becuase they have very strict push policies and once you have your name with them, its like you get stuck with them forever!
