You can simply go to http://www.godaddy.com/ and type in the name you want.

No it sure isn't easy trying to pick out a domain name, then when you do it's taken.

A suggestion, a member here at WT asked for help picking a domain name, the member gave the theme of the website and some particulars, the members submitted names for their website, might help you out.....

Another suggestion...

You are right, most all of the good names are gone. Sometimes your best option is to go and see if you can buy a premium domain in the aftermarket. Sedo.com, Afternic.com, BaseFile.com and Domainers.Name are only a few places where you can find portfolios of domains for sale that are already registered.

Another option is to check the droplists. OdditySoftware.com keeps lots of lists of Domains that are dropping. Pool.com is a searchable database of Domains which are about to expire.

If you find a name you want, you can try to backorder it. There are a number of ways to do this. Pool.com can try to get the name for you for free, and if they get it they will put it up for auction with the people who requested it. Then you bid for it. There are other services like this, eNom's Drop Club, SnapNames, NameWinner. You can also try to backorder the Domain Name through GoDaddy or BackorderDN.com, etc... which costs about $18.95 upfront.

If you find the one you like, it may already even have traffic, no matter which way you get your name. Even a great newly registered name can have some traffic, its just that these are harder to find. And you don't want something so long that people can't remember it, either.

Try to avoid hyphens and numbers in names, as well. These can create branding problems.

Also be sure that you aren't registering/buying a trademarked name. But I am sure that you knew that.
