Hi!

Don't quite know if this is the right forum, but it seemed closest of the choices so please bear with me!

I am responsible for maintenance of the domain portfolios for several clients. One thing I have learnt is that left to their own devices clients will just register a domain name with the first registrar they come across and then forget about it, meaning that when renewal comes due, they don't remember the registrar, they don't remember their user name, they certainly don't remember their password and nine times out of ten they have given incorrect contact details or the contact details belong to an individual who has left the company etc etc etc.

Anyway...I am not concerned with hosting of sites. It is just my responsibility to ensure renewals are carried out or domains are allowed to lapse or potentially useful new domains get registered.

I have been charged basically with centralising the records for all the clients who wish us to take over their portfolio. Therefore I want to get them all transferred over to an account with a single registrar so that I can administer everything very quickly and easily. I found that many of the domains I was dealing with were with Register.com, who have a control panel etc which enables you to do most administration instantly online and I therefore, as a stopgap, arranged to have many of the domains transferred into a new account with them in our name as they made no charge for this service. However, I have several "administrative contact" details to update and I was somewhat disgusted to discover that for me to go into the control panel and update my own administrative contacts costs me the princely sum of £25 per domain (.com) or £40 per domain (.co.uk) This makes the costs absolutely prohibitive as some of these companies have several hundred domains with varying admin details.

Can anyone suggest a registrar that does not make ridiculous charges for administering domains? I could maybe understand it if this was changing the actual registrant details, but in many cases this is simply a matter of changing the contact email address to my email address and as such I feel I am being royally ripped off - I mean, it is me who is actually updating the details so I can't really understand what I am paying for!

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Thanks!

Short and sweet! Thanks for this!

Ideally I was hoping that I would be able to have all the domains with one registrar, however...

Maybe I am asking for the moon on a stick, but it doesn't seem like too big a request really...after all, I am the customer and the customer is never wrong!

Also I have just spotted this on another post ...know this is probably talking about the hosting side of things but the apple don't fall far from the tree and all that...
http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/r...om-reviews.htm

To me, customer service is everything as I have SO many problems getting the existing domain registrations sorted when I have the wrong contact details, addresses, redundant emails etc.

Either of the above can provide both .co.uk and .com regisrations, but the prices vary a little.

In truth both have reasonable prices across TLDs and good management tools. If I had to stick to one I'd probably opt for GoDadddy as they make it a lot easier to update thing on mass than 123 do.

Interesting to see what you said about register.com . Always thought that they were the worst big registrar that I have dealt with. Nearly caused a customer to lose a very valuable domain once so have not gone near them since.

Not as short an answer, but hopefull still as sweet

have you thought about maybe getting a reseller account with a registrar such as directi.com or enom.com?

Thanks guys - very useful indeed.

Hadn't considered the reseller option, but seems like it will definitely be worth looking into some more!

I've been using and reselling Wild West Domains accounts. They are great. WWD is actually GoDaddy's reseller program (Wild West Domains is a part of the GoDaddy group). WWD carries its own ICANN Accreditation, as well.

There are some other options as well, but these are the people who I have had great success with.

I am official ENOM reseller for Bulgaria with
sertificate and all of my domains are in my
reseller account, they are best becouse
the DNS change on their domains
happens on the second.
Other registrars like DIRECTI takes 2 days
and when I was a DIRECTI reseller
my clients don't liked this.

I'm facing a similar problem right now so I found http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/best_and_worst.php really helpful. Is it normal that hosts still offer PHP4? Not that PHP5 is offering so much cool stuff that I need it, but it has been a while since PHP5 is out which makes me wonder how up to date hosts are. InMotion Hostingstill runs PHP4.
