Hi Friends & Webmasters,

i have a problem and hope that you can help me.

I've got a domain www.page1.com about the topic "presents".
There is on competitor with a similar domain name. Its possible to buy this domain since yesterday.
It is the domain www.page2.com

Now i've bought the domain www.page2.com and will host it on the same IP like www.page1.com

So the www.page2.com is on the same IP and the same server like www.page1.com

Now I want to forward the domain www.page2.com through 301 to www.page1.com

Does this work in terms of SEO? I want to keep the backlinks and the popularity of the purchased
www.page2.com for the old domain www.page1.com

Will this method work out for Google? What do i have to keep in mind and take care of?

Thanks in advance.

It may work. It may not. How's that for conviction?

With 301s you almost always lose some of the link juice, though most will eventually transfer. In this case Google might see the new ownership on page2.com and decide the purchase was made just for the links and perhaps not transfer all the link juice. Since the sites are on the same topic it should work in your advantage.

My guess is most of the links will transfer in time, though some will be lost.

You may want to redirect the pages a little at a time instead of all at once. That will let you see if the link juice is pointing to the old site and how long it's taking. You could also leave the links pointing to page2.com and then have the pages of that site link to page1.com. Not quite as good as having all the different sites linking to page2 linking to page1, but it doesn't risk anything in the 301s.
