Is .tel worth the hype?

I heard of the .tel 'hype' fairly recently, and to be honest i don't know what to make of it?

I know the idea behind the .tel domain is to create another 'level' of domain type........one that is based more around social networking. However, although i see how it COULD be useful, i can't see it being 'the next big thing' of the internet?

Maybe i am missing something?

Does anyone here have a .tel domain name or plan on getting one? Any thoughts on how you think it may impact the web??

I suppose that everyone is allowed to do research for the domain name extension and choose the one to invest money in. The cj\hoice is yours and if you do not see the powerin certain domain name extension that is only your point of view

Yes, i understand individuals value domain names based on what they think a particular domain is worh........just thought they may have been some opinions on whether .tel would be seen 'globally' as 'the next big thing'.

Nothing much can be done w.r.t to the .tel Domain Name ~ was kinda happy when heard that -"The .TEL MX feature is finally live!" - What this basically means is that an individual can now add + modify their MX records and have email ids like mailme@nathaniel.tel

Why? In terms of google and other SE content is the king. So domain name can't influence on the web site optimization

Siber, I think that a domain can help you with SEO. if content is king, a domain can be considered Queen.

I am not a big fan of the .tel extension. I am sure that there is some nice money to be made in all extensions, but I'd recommend sticking to your standard TLD unless you are targeting a specific region or really know what you are doing.

almost every extension has its fans/investors, look at .tv as well.

With a good idea and proper development almost any domain can be turned into a successful site.

I have not seen any .tel domain name yet. I still prefer .com or .net

If you want to store and manage all your contact information and keywords directly in the DNS without having to build, host or maintain a website then I say go for it.

But from what I read, acquiring a .tel domain servers either a business purpose or individual purpose. You just have to know what your goals are.
