Crap! I just bought a mis-typed domain name

I am launching a new tech blog, as all my current URLs have been cursed by the almighty G, and I'm convinced that they will never, ever, not in a million years see a positive pagerank increase. On that note, I'd like to send a big , wet, sloppy ,F U to goog.

Ahem.

So, after doing a bit of research as to what a good URL would be, then trying to buy said domains... well, I discovered that most of them, even my first, second... tenth choice was taken. By the way, it really pisses me off when the domain that I want is taken... and being parked. But hey, I understand that some of us make money that way.

So, I thought I found a half decent domain name that wasn't taken, and I registered it. the name was supposed to be gadgetech.com . The domain I actually registered was gadetech.com. Yes, I cussed aloud when I saw the confirmation email.

Well, the url still contains one keyword and part of another, so it's not all that bad, but it would be nice if it made sense to human visitors as well. Maybe it's appropriate that there a missing "g" in the url, given my luck with the big g in the past.

That being said, I'm going to grudgingly try to make the best of this.

=D reminds me of when i went to register a domain for my hosting company. I spent the entire day trying to figure out how to login. Then at the end i noticed the spelling. Domains a non refundable arnt they? If they are buy the one you want and trying and sell it. Or rename your site GadgeTech

I HATE it when that happens. However, the fact that you misspelled it so easily is telling. I would buy the one you want and keep the misspelled domain as a forward to the real one, in case future visitors do the same. That is, if the one you want is available...

I do believe that once registered, I cannot get a refund for the domain name. I'm just going to live with it. As it turns out, both gadgetech and gadgettech are both taken. That's okay, I've seen worse, and it's not like I expect the site to become insanely popular.I'll just have to make up some lamebrained reason for the name..like . .. maybe I'll pretend my first name is gade or... hm.. ran out of ideas already.

@ fiveacehosting- the domain I wanted was gadgetech... I accidentally registered the much less catchy gadetech ...

Contact the registrar, its called a grace period. I think its about 3 days.

Cool.. thanks for the info! I just email customer service, will update with their reply.

I really thought that gadgetech was pretty clever- it has two keywords in the url, and combines them into one memorable word. I might try to get this in a .net or some other non .com version. I had to do that with pixel-shack, and I've learned to live with it. There are a lot of pixel shacks out there!

Thinking up excuses that I can put in the motto:

gadetech.com: because I can't spell for crap.

Gadetech.com: gadgetech.com was already taken

gadetech: I have clumsy fingers

gadetech: I'd like to buy a "G"

gadetech: gade is french for "frickin' awesome"

gadetech: I was drunk when I bought this domain name, honest!

gadetech : gade- it's pronounced G'day!

gadetech: at least I got half of the name right!

gadetech: typos are the new black.

They are lying to you! Dynadot goes through icann, and they still delete domains for you, they just dont refund the icann fee which is a miniscule .20c or something.

You need a new registrar.

I guess so. I just don't like having my domain management spread out all over - as it is, I have a few at 1and1 and a few at dreamhost (where I bought the typo). Plus I have a bunch of subdomains at each one. I intend to buy more domains in the future, and I'd like to keep domain management as easy as possible.

I've never actually transferred a domain, and from what I gather, it costs money to transfer domains, and you can't transfer a domain for 90 days or something? Is that right, or does it depend on the registrar?

Exactly what I was thinking. I know from experience a lot of bigger companies have bought mispelled domains and forward them to their webpages to make sure they maximize their visitors.
