I was going to start a similar thread myself, but I'll just add to this thread as it already exists.
I am looking for feedback on some registrars. Not any that I am specifically listing, but if you have had good experiences with a registrar, especially at tested times, I would like to get some input.
Before I get a response of links to someone's reseller site, let me state that I am not looking for resellers or joke turnkey sites. Pardon the crudeness, but I look at registrars the same as I look at a bank, you are depending on them to hold something of your's that is of value to you. I suspect that you wouldn't give your money to someone who walked up to you off the street and said 'hey buddy, I'll hold that for you, trust me', so why should you do that with your domains?
I presently have 97 domains spread out between 5 registrars. I started out with Namecheap and added other registrars either due to pricing specials or for bulk domain purchases where the domains were already with another registrar.
Up to several months ago, I would have highly recommended Namecheap. I have been with them well over two years and have only come to doubt them within the past few months. Integrity and sniping issues aside, their server problems just seem constant and worsening.
Within the first domain push to me using GoDaddy, they showed a lack of integrity. With any other registrar I have dealt, a push is a push, and not a transfer. With GoDaddy, a push is a transfer and locks you in to prevent you from transferring the domain for 60 days (being that many domains are bought and sold on GoDaddy, often with a short time before renewal, this assures that they will get renewal fees and not just be a middleman).
I recently signed up with Moniker due to having bought some domains from someone with an account there. I had read some good things about Moniker and wanted to try them out anyway. My only guess is that whomever wrote good things about Moniker must be associated with them. And I thought Namecheap had server issues.
My experiences with registrars has basically lead me to understanding that the only thing I can recommend a registrar on is price; and that's not a good thing.
I will be keeping some domains with Namecheap and two of my other registrars (one of which is now my regular registrar due to the economics of their pricing). I will be transferring domains out of Moniker and basically telling GoDaddy to go to hell.
You would certainly hope that registrars would have more of a commitment to their customers, but basically there is little profit in registering domains compared to buying and selling, and sniping them.
I'm wondering if any of you have had good experiences with registrars to the point you would put a degree of trust in them; and what registrars.
