You should read the rules of the company you got it from.

Is co.cc like .tk? Or any of those shortening URL websites? If so, then I don't see why it wouldn't stay free. .tk has stayed true to their word for quite some time now, though I think you can pay with them to remove their advertisement. At least that's how it was several years ago when I used them for a gaming website.

You should buy TLD rather these kind of free domains.

I don't like free domains such as .co.cc. Not only do I believe they look unprofessional I sometimes don't like to think that what I'm using is free and I'm bound to some rules which may determine something I don't want to do or abide by.

Read through the Terms & Conditions. If they say that you have to pay after the first year, then cancel now or before then. Or even better, get a paid domain name like .com or .co.uk.

Some of domains are free, totaly free. But there are always some terms of use. There is many hosting companys that will give you up to 3 free domains if you take hosting with them.

Microsoft offers free domain registration to small businesses. I have seen this work before! The problem is that they will have control of your domain and dns servers. Most people giving away free domains will do this to you.
