Hello to all,

So with websites such as this one, webmaster-talk.com, it has a - in it. Do you think this is ok? Or not the best idea?

I wanted to buy a name and it was taken. I found the site, and noticed you could inquire about the domain name. I was sent an email which stated it would be $900.00 I laughed and hit delete on the email. But then I found the same name I wanted with a -

So should a person take it or is it too hard as people will always go to the site without the - first?

Thank you for your thoughts

Chris

For development purpose i don't think hyphen makes much difference, there plenty of developed successful site using hyphen in their name. Sure, some of your visitors might visit non-hyphenated version first, but they will find your site finally.

Delimiters are useful in certain situations, we all know search engines are smart enough to pick out keywords in a domain name with no delimiters, but there are exceptions.

www.expertsexchange.com Experts Exchange, a site that is dedicated to the stock market.

Now, how might Google read this domain? Experts Exchange or Expert Sex Change. The delimiter should be used if the other version is taken or there can be issues with pulling correct keywords.

try not to use a hyphen man, it decreases the value and makes the domain look less attractive.
