Hey brett35, don't really know what you mean. You want to keep your webpage, but change so that visitors reach it by typing in something other than smashchatter.com? Is that right?
Well, all it takes is going to Yahoo and buying your new domain name for $10, then point that to your current host. (Look on Yahoo for how.)
I'm pretty sure your current host will be glad to register a domain for you for about the same price, and they will help you set it up. Which host are you using?
There's two ends to this - the registrar and the host. There are loads of competing services on the net that let you search and buy domains, and contact the registrar for you. Now, you can choose any registrar - you should get mail telling you how to log in and point the domain name you registered to your site.
The host "just" stores the files that make up your site, and all of them allow .com/net/org/biz/info/us to point to your site. For other (country) domains like .co.uk etc, all hosts are different.
Sorry if you already know how it works But you could clarify exactly what your goal is, I got a little uncertain.
