Hi folks. I am new to the forum.
I have a site that looks ok in IE but the center column goes right over the footer in Firefox.

Can anyone help me.

First you have to get rid of the position: absolutes on the other divs.
Then set them up as floats instead.

Absolutely positioned elements are completely taken out of the flow and will not react to any other elements around them. If you want the whole page to stretch along with that center column, you're going to have to remove the position:absolute.

Position:relative isn't necessary on everything either.
