how do I design a portfolio site using css? Currently I'm using a template based on frames. Select a thumbnail in the left nav frame and point to an html page that loads into the main display frame. It works fine.
What I'm thinking about is how to link a thumbnail in the nav layer to an image contained in a "stack" of congruent layers that are all positioned in the center of the page, i.e. a display. Somehow using the visible/hidden functions of css to link to the the correct layer in the stack. So, how to link one layer to another?
javascript perhaps?
a native solution in css?

please advise with solution or link to an appropriate tutorial.

Best regards,

First of all - dont use frames. Frames are totally redundant technology. Consider using php or asp includes. If you cant figure the strategy behind this type of content management from this thread , give a holler...

As for your "layer" solution, not a great idea for bandwidth optimization; better to create a file for each image and include the "nav.php" in each. See the linked thread above for further explanation.
