The first and only CSS book that I have read is called "CSS Mastery" It is excellent, although some of the workarounds described for IE 5 do not apply any more since that browser is virtually dead.

Some great links guys, I haven't looked into anything like this before, I learned it more by trial and error but I'd be interested in refining my knowledge.
