i have a layout that looks great( to me lol ) in IE but it all scrambled up in firefox and opera. before anyone says, i know IE is displaying my site wrong.

Well, start by fixing your invalidly nested code and validation errors:

Ok I've entered it into the W3C Validator and I've sorted the problems so now I am up to standard. so whats wrong?? I'm still getting problems.

When you float an element you MUST give it a defined width - width: auto won't work. Height:auto is unnecessary, the box will stretch to fit it's contents.
