@~$*£$&"&*%@~#/!

this is really bugging me, i went through every piece of css and put every single line in a comment one by one checking to see if that was the line that was affecting it, but nothing in there is affecting it so i checked the html, did the same thing, nothing...!!!

so it cant be something ive got in there but something i haven't i could be wrong of course, i'll be pissed if i am but o well, as long as the problem is solved...without the use of position: absolute.

** retract that last ***

Margin collapse - add 1px of top padding to #menu

urm, yer that sort of solves the problem, the menu area is now in the correct place but the tabs are still messed up.

this is really bugging me now, i dont understand whats upsetting it. its got to be in the navstyle.css or nav.php because i put them on seperate hosting and made sure they had no links to any of the other files and it was still all out of order, what am i doing wrong?

I started again, and i think i found a solution.
So far i've just added:
Code:
ul {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}
into the navstyle.css

I'll get back to you with an update on how things are going, see if i can get this to work.

EDIT: YES!!!! GET IN THERE!!! Yer, i got it working, thanks for your help.

You should always get in the habit of zeroing out margin and padding on all major elements, like ul's, in the very beginning of your CSS file, that will eliminate some of the debugging frustration.
