How would one go about MAKING a CPA Network site...? I'm not really thinking about it, just wondering how one would go about it.

you would need a good bit of money and lots of contacts with lead buyers unless u just wanted to be a network that was shuffling offers. then you end up being dpendant on other networks.

You take your first born child and give them to Direct Track. Then you have more children (adding extra wives is helpful) and give all of them to Direct Track.

Then you spend all day weeding through crappy Shiftcode sites with names like 'CashNinja' and firing fraudulent publishers. Every once in a while you get a wave of Lithuanian's running massive Botnets who try to create fake accounts under various names and use spyware infested US based machines to run leads through your networks (your advertisers will LOVE this...). So you spend some time kissing asses and explaining so that they'll let you keep running the offers that just got tanked over night by the random Vietnamese gang that squeeked through compliance somehow.

You find some other networks to work with, you'll send them 50k in traffic over a week, they'll love the traffic and want more! Then when it comes time for them to pay you, they stop answering the phone, and fall off the face of the earth. Then three weeks later they'll come back with some bull**** about not having capitalized the R in a sentence therefore you didn't comply with TOS, therefore they will not pay you. BUT of course you still have to pay your publishers because, unlike them, you are an upstanding netizen.

If you do manage to get a few decent publishers into your network, they will than ask you for huge paybumps because some other network is offering something WAY above the street price agreed upon by everyone.

You'll spend all night on IM and the phone answering questions like 'When do I get Paid?' and 'Helo kind sir, how to be the numbers One in the Googled?' and they won't understand your answer anyway.

Then you age about 8 years in six months, grow some more grey hairs...

That seems to be the average experience these days and is what will happen to 90/100 CPA networks that sprang up this year - resulting in them not making it past the one year mark. It is the smart/hard working few that make it. So uh, ya. It is 'lots of work, huh!'

I respect what you have, and I guess you work for Millnic? (I just signed up for millnic - loving it) Thanks for all the information!

And what do you mean 'weeding through names of shiftcode sites like cashninjas' - what do you have against my site or cashninjas? they bring traffic to CPAs dont they?

And thanks for mocking me on your last line.. hehe. :P

ChickenHole, you forgot the part where your servers get DDoS'ed because people are pissed that your affiliates are spamming myspace.

95% of GPT sites out there using shift code are really false fronts for botnet traffic. So its not a poke at you so much as all Shift Code sites. Most networks have a 'No ShiftCode' Policy. I'm thinking of implementing the same.

and oh ya - Then your severs get DDOS'd by ex affiliates you fired for spamming mySpace who then claim to be some holier than thou 'Coalition of **** Knuckles who love Glitter Graphics on mySpace'

I realize ShiftCode isn't the best way to go, but what is so wrong with it?

Yes thanks guys. You've been lots of help. Now I have a taste of what CPAs are in an admin sense.

Yes you would need software and a lot of time to spend on your network. It's not just a 1 person job and anyone that has a network that they are running on their own or thinks they can run it on their own is more likely to fail or not earn as much as they could do with a team. There are a few networks that I have come accrossed that are run by 1 or 2 people people and the quality of them is not good at all.

yea you have to be weary of some of the shady networks out there... they are all promise but no real guts just a front. there are many top notch networks out there you have no worry on.

You don't.

Seriously, don't bother unless you've got some serious funding, meaning if a couple of your $100K merchants doesn't pay you, how do you pay your publishers? You also need a ton of experience in the business. Finally you need some ethics that you won't steal from your publishers and won't knowingly send **** leads to your merchants. (This last part seems kind of optional with networks lately, but trust me when I say it's the secret to longevity.)

No offence and nothing directed at your personally, but a shiftcode publisher might be lacking on all 3 requirements.
