You take your first born child and give them to Direct Track. Then you have more children (adding extra wives is helpful) and give all of them to Direct Track.
Then you spend all day weeding through crappy Shiftcode sites with names like 'CashNinja' and firing fraudulent publishers. Every once in a while you get a wave of Lithuanian's running massive Botnets who try to create fake accounts under various names and use spyware infested US based machines to run leads through your networks (your advertisers will LOVE this...). So you spend some time kissing asses and explaining so that they'll let you keep running the offers that just got tanked over night by the random Vietnamese gang that squeeked through compliance somehow.
You find some other networks to work with, you'll send them 50k in traffic over a week, they'll love the traffic and want more! Then when it comes time for them to pay you, they stop answering the phone, and fall off the face of the earth. Then three weeks later they'll come back with some bull**** about not having capitalized the R in a sentence therefore you didn't comply with TOS, therefore they will not pay you. BUT of course you still have to pay your publishers because, unlike them, you are an upstanding netizen.
If you do manage to get a few decent publishers into your network, they will than ask you for huge paybumps because some other network is offering something WAY above the street price agreed upon by everyone.
You'll spend all night on IM and the phone answering questions like 'When do I get Paid?' and 'Helo kind sir, how to be the numbers One in the Googled?' and they won't understand your answer anyway.
Then you age about 8 years in six months, grow some more grey hairs...
That seems to be the average experience these days and is what will happen to 90/100 CPA networks that sprang up this year - resulting in them not making it past the one year mark. It is the smart/hard working few that make it. So uh, ya. It is 'lots of work, huh!'
