Ringtone's in the eyes of teenagers

Hey EF,
My names Harrison and I am 14 years old. I have been in the internet marketing business for a few months now and i have had the privilege to make money online and attend high school. I have noticed more and more kids at my school talking about being scammed by "Free Ring-tone Websites" I was wondering what you guys think about such a serious indirect (it does not affect us) issue.

I wrote a post on my blog about it www.CpaShare.com but my blog is currently not that big and i really want to explore this issue so I'm making a post here on EF. Express your opinions please!

i make my ringtones myself well when i had nextel

people get scammed all the time, not a surprise that ringtones are one them

Ringtone companies seem to be slowly changing their marketing these days. They're getting pressure from carriers to be more upfront with potential customers.

Many of the ringtone campaigns CPA networks promote now have the monthly subscription (usually in the $10 range) clearly listed.

We'll see a lot more of this in the coming months...

being 16 and a teen, yea i do think those sites are a scam. However now if you go into most CPA networks and wish to advertise those sites, it distinctly says you can not use the word "Free" anywere in the promotion of said ringtone plan. wich i think is a good step for everyone and a lot safer in the end.

It just depends on the point of view of the person viewing the site. To a teenager looking for ringtones it might look like a scam.

All ringtone deals are scams. Nothing is free.

I don't think they're all scams. They are presented to be appealing and users sign up without reading the fine print.

Which makes it a scam. Advertising a product as one thing and then including some barely legible fine print at the bottom describing the actual product/service as something completely different (and always more expensive) is a scam in my eyes.

You could apply that to many advertisements made on television today also. Its just the way advertisers work these days.
